As a Zoological Manager at The Seas with Nemo & Friends, you will be an active leader in The Walt Disney Company. In this role, you will lead and manage the day-to-day operation related to aquatic animal care. You will be an animal care/management specialist in the aquarium profession, an engaged leader with other Disney leaders and teams, a partner to Walt Disney World Park Operations, and an involved professional in the aquarium community.
In this role, you will report to the Animal Operations Manager - The Seas.
You Will/Responsibilities:
Lead and demonstrate strong guidance and support for operational team at The SeasWork in strong collaboration with peers to manage the day-to-day operation across the Seas and Land animal areasAttend Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment leadership meetingsProvide career development, coaching, and feedback for frontline castEnsureing effective, transparent, and timely feedback, communication, and direction through appropriate venues/mechanisms such as presence in the area, shift change meetings, email communication, team meetings, etc.Ensureing awareness of important information from a variety of sources and advocateing for appropriate team-based needsContinuous focus on awareness and improvement of animal well-being, including behavioral management, nutritional, medical, and environmental (onstage and backstage)Provide leadership support for collection planning, acquisitions, and transfersStrong collaboration with the guest-animal experiences teamsActively involved within professional organizations, including AZA managed programs as needed, RAW participation (Presenting, attending Marine Fish and Aquatic Invertebrate TAG), and conservation involvement as appropriate/availableSupport our animal programs at the Aulani Resort and Castaway CayBasic Qualifications:
Minimum of five years of paid aquarium management experience at an AZA accredited or equivalent facilityAnimal management expertise of marine species in large and small environments utilizing knowledge of natural histories and behavioral husbandry practicesSCUBA certification from an accredited diving organization in the US, and the ability to obtain rescue diver level trainingAbility to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workersSkilled in the delivery of recognition and feedback to promote development and improve cast performanceDemonstrated strong organizational, problem solving and both oral and written communication skillsComputer proficiency with Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint and ZIMS)Schedule availability to include weekends, variable shifts, and holidaysAbility to obtain a valid Florida Driver LicensePreferred Qualifications:
Previous leadership experience within an AZA accredited facilityExpertise in the management of a wide variety of aquatic taxa management, including elasmobranchs, marine teleost, invertebrates, sea turtles and manateesExperience managing and developing behavioral husbandry practicesRequired Education:
