A bit about the role
The Gael Og Youth Service in Inverness is a joint initiative led by Action for Children, Police Scotland, and Social Work Services, the service is aimed at supporting young people who are at risk of, or are being exploited into serious criminal activity.
Adopting a person-centred approach, the service prioritises individual development by offering tailored opportunities that address each person’s unique needs. Our Young Person Practitioner’s, armed with specialised expertise, collaborate with various agencies to deliver comprehensive support. With resilience, empathy, and adaptability, they tackle the challenges faced by young individuals, providing assistance even beyond standard working hours.
Key objectives of the programme include delivering personalised one-to-one and group sessions designed to empower young people with essential skills for making positive choices. Through targeted interventions, the team seeks to help individuals overcome both personal and practical barriers that hinder constructive life paths. The ultimate goal is to support re-engagement in education, training, or employment, reducing the likelihood of criminal behaviour and fostering a brighter, more positive future.
How you'll help to create brighter futures
Conduct assessments, create care plans, and perform regular progress reviews to provide tailored support as needed.Build strong, positive relationships with young people, acting as a role model to challenge negative behaviours and encourage personal growth.Connect young people with local resources, including education, training providers, and employment opportunities.Collaborate with third parties to address specific needs and provide appropriate support services.Offer mentoring support, assisting young people with employment preparation, including obtaining identification and planning travel.Conduct regular visits and interventions to provide ongoing support and guidance.Promote the Criminal Exploitation Intervention Service to partners and agencies, increasing awareness and engagement.Let's talk about you
An open-minded, non-judgemental personality as you’ll be working with people that are at a vulnerable point in their lives.Working within a multi-agency social care, early years or health environment and applying safeguarding procedures.To participate in a flexible working rota to provide support for young people, some evening and weekend work will be required.Driving licence and access to a car. The job requires the ability to travel across a large rural catchment according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act.To work cross functionally with other services within Gael Og to ensure that Action for Children's Values and strategic objectives are achieved.To guide and support less experienced staff.Good to know
