WSJ Newsroom Audience Data Analyst
The Wall Street Journal is looking for a data analyst to help deliver data-driven insights for the newsroom. You will be at the forefront of our data efforts, translating datasets into actionable insights and compelling visualizations for news chiefs, senior editors, journalists and executives. Your work will not only guide editorial strategy but also drive innovation through the development and exploration of new AI-powered tools, dashboards and metrics for the newsroom. The Journal has a large digital audience that is quickly growing. As we grow, we are dedicated to understanding all of our audiences and the value we provide them. You will be a key member of the Newsroom Data and AI team, which is using data science, analytics, machine learning and emerging AI technologies to help us engage better with our audiences. This role is highly collaborative, working with teams across audio, video, search, social, product and strategy. It’s important to have an enthusiasm for news and the public mission of journalism in this job. This position is based in our New York office and reports to the Newsroom Director of Data and AI. You will: + Manage, organize and present data in a clear, concise and actionable format + Analyze and interpret complex audience data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations to support newsroom decisions + Design, build and maintain dashboards and visualizations for newsroom stakeholders + Explore and prototype new applications for generative AI to enhance journalist workflows and data analysis + Teach editors, reporters and others around the newsroom how to use tools and think about audience data + Champion a culture of data-driven innovation by proactively identifying opportunities for new analytical approaches and tools You have: + 1-2 years of experience working as a data analyst. Less professional experience may be suitable, depending on skills and relevant project work. + Experience cleaning and manipulating messy data + Proficiency in SQL for complex querying, data transformation and analysis + The ability to be flexible with your workflow and manage multiple assignments + Excellent time management skills, eagerness to learn and a desire to seek and give feedback Top candidates will have strengths in one or more areas of the following: + Experience with Python (preferred) or R for machine learning and data orchestration + Experience with Google data studio or Tableau + Experience with Linux and cloud-based services + Experience building projects with generative AI technology + Experience with project and stakeholder management + Knowledge of data analytics platforms, including Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, Parse.ly or Chartbeat + LI-JA1-WSJ Dow Jones , Making Careers Newsworthy All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, protected veteran status, or disability status.
