Workplace Safety Specialist - Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S)
Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) is searching for a Workplace Safety Specialist to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by supporting and collaborating with the Assistant Director of EH&S in the development, deployment, quality assurance, and training of Workplace Safety Programs that comply with federal, state, and local regulatory obligations and university procedures. You will achieve these goals through collaboration with all EH&S staff in the efficient and integrated delivery of services. **Core responsibilities include:** + **Program Development:** Support the development, implementation, and/or updating of programs related to workplace safety, including but not limited to Personal Protective Equipment, Overhead and Gantry Cranes, etc. + **Training:** Provide training and assistance to the university community in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory obligations as it relates to Workplace safety programs. + **Quality Assurance:** Conduct periodic assessments of Workplace Safety programs with the university community to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory obligations. + **Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Program:** Assist in maintaining an accurate AED inventory, replace unit components as needed, and coordinate training classes + **Incident Management:** Aid in the investigation and reporting of workplace-related injuries and identify opportunities for process and program improvement. + **Ergonomic Evaluations:** Conduct ergonomic evaluations upon request from the university community. Communicate in writing the results and recommendations from the evaluation, which should be given to the customer in a timely manner. + **Safety Inspections:** Coordinate, conduct and follow up on safety inspections of various workspaces, maker spaces and shop areas on campus. + **General assistance:** Assist EH&S team members with workplace safety requests for service, and functions as a high performing, results driven team member. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through their work. **You should demonstrate:** + Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects + Positive and customer-focused attitude with a good sense of teamwork and problem-solving + Ability to work independently and as part of a team + Attention to detail + Ability to potentially be on call and work irregular or extended work hours to including, overtime, emergency hours, nights and weekends. **Qualifications:** + Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety, or related field. + A minimum of 2 years’ experience with workplace safety or related activities. + Associate Safety Professional certification preferred. + A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered. **Requirements:** + Successful completion of a pre-employment background check + Pre-employment drug and alcohol screen **Additional Information:** + **Sponsorship** : Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States.
