The Workers Compensation High Exposure Consultant is accountable to plan, recommend, reserve and execute the investigation of complex and high exposure claims in the Florida and Virginia jurisdictions. Our selected candidate shall provide the valuation, disposition and settlement of these high exposure claims while consistently adhering to our corporate claim settlement policies/procedures within broader statutory, regulatory and ethical requirements. Additionally, key responsibilities are as follows:


• Assess the indemnity and expense exposure of assigned claims
• Manage the most complex workers compensation claims
• Plan, organize, establish priorities, anticipate problems, determine realistic 
completion dates and communicate the status of claims
• Set appropriate and timely reserve
• Maintain current knowledge of claim loss cost containment initiatives and 
utilize them appropriately in a manner consistent with company practices and 
procedures
• Identify and initiate mitigation, subrogation, salvage and other recovery 
opportunities.
• Maintain a heightened level of interaction relevant to our stakeholders (Agents, 
Brokers & Policyholders.
• Maintain a proactive role in Litigation management.
• Always demonstrate professionalism and establish credibility through 
interactions with customers to personally enhance The Hartford's reputation in 
the marketplace.
• Assist with development and training of staff
• Approve and review authorities for handlers in TL absence
• Assist with improving metrics either by tracking trends or developing training.

Qualifications:


• Minimum of 3 years of claims experience with technical expertise in managing 
high exposure and complex work comp claims
• Florida and Virginia claim handling experience preferred 
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
• Strong verbal/written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate and negotiate with key stakeholders
• Superior customer service skills with internal and external customers
• Ability to demonstrate a sense of urgency in keeping track of multiple issues 
while addressing them with accuracy and excellent customer service
• Adept at managing conflict as an opportunity to listen and share information 
while negotiating a win/win outcome that supports The Hartford's and the 
injured worker's best interest.
• Detail oriented with strong organization, prioritization and analytical skills
• Leader among claim handlers providing advanced expertise to teammates in 
solving problems
• Demonstrated thought leadership with the ability to influence positive 
outcomes
• Strong computer proficiency with MS Office and claim management platforms

This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement.  Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Scottsdale, AZ, Lake Mary, FL, and Naperville, IL) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$84,000 - $126,000
