Program and Position Summary:

ALCC Wood For Life  

The Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps (ALCC) is a partner of the Wood For Life Initiative (WFL), which is comprised of the United States Forest Service (USFS), National Forest Foundation (NFF), and various Tribal Partners, Non-Profits, and Grassroots Organization who focus on providing resourceful wood material to the local Tribal communities. The focus of the ALCC: WFL Program is to provide firewood for heating initiatives, mulch, and Post & Beams for traditional building purposes. ALCC: WFL has a large field operation where ALCC and AZCC crews produce resourceful wood material that is accessible to individual households within Tribal communities and Partners who support distribution beyond the operation site.   

 

ALCC Wood For Life Field Tech Overview:  

WFL fields both AZCC and ALCC crews in the spring and fall seasons which comprises our busiest production seasons. A total of 4 crews consisting of young adults complete important thinning projects on Coconino National Forest every year. The project is very busy during peak production season with around 30 personnel onsite and heavy equipment in rotation daily. ALCC WFL has invested in a large amount of equipment to increase the productivity of the crews. This equipment includes chainsaws, wood splitters, ATV’s, Log Arch’s, Log Carts, Wood Chippers, and various large capacity truck/ trailers.

 

We are hiring an individual primarily focused on assisting with the technical aspects of the operation including transportation of all equipment for rig up and de rig days and management of all inventory/equipment. The Field tech will also assist with scheduling maintenance or performing field maintenance on this equipment. Applicants must be experienced in driving heavy duty Dually trucks with trailers 20’ in length and full loads. Applicants also are preferred to have some experience in small engine maintenance and repair. Our project site is located near Flagstaff AZ which will require the position to report in person to the worksite daily. We are seeking an individual that is in or around the Flagstaff area due to the need to quickly deploy equipment for the crews.

Responsibilities:  

Leadership & Mentorship 

Implement skills training on worksite and facilitate WFL specific trainings.Follow and enforce all policies, maintain professional boundaries, and appropriately represent the program. This includes creating a substance free work environment, refraining from the use of tobacco products, alcohol, and drugs while involved in the program.  

Project Management & Implementation  

Train and motivate a crew of young adults to efficiently complete tasks and objectives outlined in the daily briefing, while working long hours and managing high quality of work. Think critically to resolve issues and solve problems, requesting assistance or help when needed.  Communicate & coordinate logistics with the Project Coordinator, Director and Communications Coordinator.

Safety & Risk Management  

Exhibit strong situational awareness & promote a culture of safety.  Transport crew and equipment safely in organizational or large trucks with trailers in accordance with CL Driver policy. Manage and document incidents in the field and activate incident response system, if needed, per Conservation Legacy policy.

Administration  

Track and submit credit card receipts for all expenses every month.Update and maintain the inventory management system.Schedule and/or order any inventory maintenance supplies/appointments.
