Job Description

Key Responsibilities May Include:

Translate system requirements into detailed hardware design specifications, ensuring alignment with firmware and software requirements.Design and develop hardware modules and systems for low-power, small-scale devices operating in challenging environments.Collaborate with Firmware and Software Engineers to ensure seamless integration of hardware with tracking and sensor telemetry applications for LPWAN or Cellular IoT networks.Develop and execute testing protocols to verify the end-to-end functionality of prototype devices, including hardware, firmware, and connectivity.Participate in technical design reviews, providing input on system architecture and deployment strategies to optimize hardware performance.Conduct simulations and prototyping to validate hardware designs and ensure compliance with system specifications and environmental constraints.Continuously explore and implement improvements to hardware development processes, enhancing performance, reliability, and efficiency.Provide technical leadership and guidance in hardware engineering, ensuring best practices in design, testing, and deployment across the team.

Position Purpose

This position will design, develop and improve the IoT Tracking Solution’s Wireless capabilities and features to meet customer and internal needs.  You will be knowledgeable on various wireless technologies, BLE in particular, from both a hardware and protocol perspective and provide technical support to other Brambles teams where needed.

In this position, you will also be responsible for designing, developing and validating the wireless features and capabilities of Brambles Digital’s solutions, including WiFi, Bluetooth / BLE and UWB.

You will act as a stage gate in the development of new products and features.

Major/Key Accountabilities

You will execute day to day activities, reporting, and communications. You will be a key point of contact for other Brambles teams and manage resources in completing wireless product / solutions design and support activities to meet deadlines.  You should be a strong and effective communicator that is independent and highly motivated. You will join a world-class team of experts exploring new concepts through rapid prototyping leading to shipping products.

Be part of the development and improvement of wireless products and solutions.

Apply technical knowledge of wireless technologies and solutions to design, develop and improve the IoT Tracking Solution’s wireless capabilities and features.Execute testing and validation of wireless products, features and solutions. This could include both field and on-site testing.Support device / solution failure troubleshooting and resolution.Be Digital Operations Stage Gate to ensure IoT Tracking product and solution meets the operational needs of the customer.Work with chipset and connectivity suppliers for the above.

Industry Analysis and Support

Support the evaluation of competitor IoT products/solutions and provide assessments to Team on performance, gaps and development needs.Keep up to date with latest industry standards and advancements in IoT technologies and solutions.

Challenges/Problem Solving

Working remotely with customers and team members in international locationsWorking in a matrix environmentLearning both own and competitor’s IoT Solution’ products and solutions to carry out competitive analysis.

Qualifications

Technical degree with extensive experience/exposure to Wireless protocols / technologies, hardware and solutionsHave flexible work schedule to work with team members and support activities in other countries/time zones.Must be willing to travel to support Brambles Digital activities, up to 30% travel. Must be able to travel Internationally if needed.Proven history of collaborating with stakeholders both remotely and in person.Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Essential Qualifications

Extensive experience of working with different Wireless hardware, including dev kits, and solutions.In depth knowledge of Wireless protocols / technologies, including Bluetooth / BLE, Wi-Fi and UWB.Knowledge of various IoT protocols such as MQTT, CoAP, LWM2M, etc.Be self-driven, hands on, and communicate effectively in a remote work environment.Be analytical and methodical.Hardware development experience

Desirable Qualifications

Experience with UWB (e.g. AirTag, SmartTag, etc) and Cellular asset tracking solutions.Experience with indoor and outdoor positioning solutions from WiFi and BLE to GNSS.Knowledge of communication protocols: I2C, SPI, UART, I2S, PCM.Experience in new product/solution/equipment development and launches as user or provider.Experience with electrical PCB schematic capture, layout, and rapid prototyping.Experience with various programming languages e.g. C, Python, etc. and working with SDKs.Experience of working with / writing device firmware.

5+ years of related experience in wireless hardware and solutions design and development

Skills and Knowledge

Proven technical skills related to wireless and tracking technologies.Good experience of designing and supporting Wireless hardware and solutions.Analyse, design, develop, and troubleshoot tracking hardware and solution.Support all phases of hardware development – including early architecture requirements definition, EVT, DVT, PVT.Experience with sensors, accelerometers, gyro, GNSS, humidity, temperatureStrong communication skills with customer facing experience
