Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Lead a diverse team of engineers and technicians in a fast-paced manufacturing environment focused on: safety, product quality, new technology deployment, manufacturing capacity and cost reduction.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Provide daily supervision, in order to ensure superior customer support to the Fibermaking manufacturing area. Prioritize support efforts, in order to maximize performance and minimize manufacturing costs Actively participate in establishing department objectives, prioritization and resource allocation as dictated by business priorities Actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects, while also encouraging 100% team participation Develop/maintain systems to monitor equipment and process performance Champion the MEE process, and the development of fundamental process/equipment understanding Provide challenging assignments to direct reports and actively work with them to define and update career plans Develop short/long term equipment and process strategies, with regards to equipment/software life-cycles or continuous improvement Sponsor or lead projects targeted at cost reduction, new products, safety, quality, increased capacity and other strategic initiatives
Soft Skills:
Works well, both independently and within a multi-disciplined team, with minimal oversight Ability to coach and develop others Strong communication and presentation skills
Travel Requirements: Less than 5% including domestic and international.
Required Education and Experience:
BS or MS in Mechanical, Chemical, Ceramic, Materials Engineering or degree in other Engineering discipline with demonstrated manufacturing experience. Four (4) or more years’ experience in manufacturing environment
Required Skills:
Ability to make sound technical decisions, both within and outside areas of expertise Strong communications skills and customer orientation Ability to work effectively on all levels of an organization Project management capability, particularly coordination of multiple, inter-related tasks Ability to multitask and prioritize work, on an independent basis, in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Knowledge of optical fiber properties, along with functional performance parameters Effective use of the scientific method and first-principle engineering to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, through well-designed and executed processes Data collection and analysis skills Working knowledge of documentation systems
Desired Skills & Experience:
Foundational experience within Fibermaking community Working knowledge of Electro-Mechanical systems, with focus on those typically found within the winding of optical fiber and cable Working knowledge of glass fracture mechanics Supervisory skills, particularly in coaching technical employees Six Sigma/DMAIC Green belt or Black belt certification Project management experience

The range for this position is $125,900.00 - $173,113.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
