The Office of Wildlife exists to provide wise stewardship of Louisiana's wildlife and associated habitats and increase wildlife conservation awareness. The Wildlife Technician will assist the Supervisor and Biologists in land stewardship and habitat management practices on Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge. The Refuge consist of 70,000 acres including 15 wetlands management units ranging in size from 80 to over 7,000 acres, 8 large diesel pumps housed in individual sheds, 45 water control structures, and 250 miles of levee systems. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: + Duties include, but are not limited to planting of food plots for wildlife by disking, fertilizing, and seeding and burning to encourage the growth of succulent vegetation. + Work assignments also include, assisting with the control of nuisance animals and noxious vegetation, as well as assisting in the operation of water management structures, pumps, and monitoring and manipulation of water levels and salinities in accordance with approved water management criteria and/or instructions from Biologists. + This positron must also assist with assessing the condition and maintenance of levee systems on water management areas, collection of biological, water level, and salinity data, trapping and banding projects, the collection of harvest data on varies species, sick or diseased animals, and the maintenance of workshops, storage buildings, and various water vessels, lawnmowers, tractors, implements and engines. + This position may also be required to participate in minor repair projects that may include basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, and mechanical duties.
