Position Overview: The Nutritionist is responsible for providing nutritional care to applicants and participants. WIC provides supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income mothers, infants and children up to age five. The WIC program also provides free classes on infant feeding and encourages breastfeeding by connecting breastfeeding moms to peer counselors. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: + Conduct nutrition assessments and determine participant eligibility for WIC services, including the identification of nutritional risk factors in accordance with federal and state guidelines. + Provide individual and group nutrition counseling and education to program participants, with a focus on maternal and child health, breastfeeding support, and healthy eating habits. + Develop and implement nutrition care plans based on participant needs, including follow-up and referral to health and social services as appropriate. + Tailor food packages for participants based on nutritional assessment, dietary needs, and WIC policies. + Promote and support breastfeeding, referring participants to the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor or Lactation Consultant as needed. + Deliver culturally competent services that are sensitive to the needs of low-income families, including multilingual and trauma-informed care as appropriate. + Maintain accurate and timely documentation in participant records using the assigned WIC data system, ensuring compliance with federal and state reporting standards. + Participate in staff trainings, outreach activities, community events, and required WIC program meetings. + Stay current with WIC policies and nutrition-related continuing education to support ongoing professional development. + Assist in implementing nutrition education activities such as Farmers’ Market programs, cooking demonstrations, and parent classes under the guidance of the Senior Nutritionist. + Collaborate with WIC team members, health care providers, and community organizations to support participant wellness and program outreach. + Support clinical operations at multiple WIC sites as needed, based on clinic scheduling and staffing needs. Required Qualifications and Skills: + One year's experience in clinical or community nutrition preferred + Bachelor's degree in public health nutrition, nutrition, foods and nutrition, or nutrition education + Master's degree in public health nutrition, nutrition, or food and nutrition, Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, or licensure with the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Dietitians and Nutritionists, desired + Demonstrated leadership and decision-making capabilities + Good communications skills + Sensitivity to the needs of the participant population + Availability to work at multiple WIC sites and during program clinic hours as needed Physical Requirements: + Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer + Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times Other duties: Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Compensation: A salary within the range of $24.52 - $33.17 per hour will be provided to the successful candidate having met the minimum requirements for the position consistent with the MOC compensation philosophy.
