Description Join Amazon's Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) team to architect and drive the enterprise-wide strategy for Prevention through Design (PtD) across Amazon's global warehouse and logistics operations. As a Principal Technical Program Manager (TPM), you will define the technical vision and lead complex, multi-year initiatives to fundamentally transform how safety is embedded within Amazon's automation systems, facility designs, and operational processes. In this strategic leadership role, you will: Establish the technical framework and governance model for scaling PtD principles across Amazon's global fulfillment network Drive architectural decisions and technical standards that proactively eliminate safety risks in next-generation robotics, facility designs, and material handling systems Build and lead high-performing teams across Robotics, Engineering, and WHS organizations to deliver breakthrough safety innovations Influence senior leadership and key stakeholders to drive organizational change and adoption of safety-first design principles Define success metrics and lead data-driven optimization of PtD programs to maximize impact across Amazon's rapidly growing operations Key job responsibilities A Principal Technical Program Manager (TPM) in Amazon's Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) team will architect the enterprise-wide Prevention through Design (PtD) strategy and technical framework, setting the foundation for safety-first design across Amazon's global network while aligning with ANSI/ASSP Z590.3-2021 standards. You will define technical architectures revolutionizing safety integration within Amazon's next-generation robotics, facility designs, and operational systems. You will build and lead matrix organizations spanning Amazon Robotics (AR), Material Handling Systems, Mechatronics, Engineering, WHS, and Operations to deliver transformational safety innovations. You will establish enterprise governance models and technical standards reshaping safety requirements integration into early-stage facility and systems design. You will develop executive-level reporting frameworks and success metrics demonstrating business value and driving organizational accountability for PtD adoption. You will influence senior leadership on multi-year strategic initiatives positioning safety as a cornerstone of Amazon's technical innovation roadmap. You will shape the long-term technical vision ensuring future technologies, automation systems, and facility designs inherently eliminate safety risks. Basic Qualifications - Engineering Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another STEM field. - 10+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience - 7+ years of technical program management experience, leading cross-functional engineering or safety initiatives. - 3+ years of experience in facility design, systems design, or automation design within warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing environments. - Experience working with safety standards (e.g., ANSI/ASSP Z590.3-2021, ISO 12100, OSHA, or NFPA 79).- 3+ years of experience in automation, robotics, or large-scale engineering projects. - Written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to senior leadership. Preferred Qualifications - Master’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Safety, or related discipline. - Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Six Sigma Black Belt. - Experience with warehouse automation, robotics safety, or ergonomic risk reduction. - Strong understanding of data analytics, predictive modeling, and AI-driven safety improvements. - Familiarity with Amazon’s design processes, WHS policies, and fulfillment operations. The base pay for this position ranges from $159,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $275,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
