Welding Engineer

You will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Welding Engineering and automation. Coordinate welding processes, including qualifications of welders and weld processes according to the applicable standards. Understand manufacturing operations from a process, safety, cost, and quality perspective and for identifying and prioritizing opportunities to improve safety, ergonomics and quality, reduce cost, and refine manufacturing processes. Works with Quality to ensure compliance with procedures and standards, and developing and maintaining welding documentation (PQR, WPS, WPQ). According to applicable Global Work Instructions the Welding Engineer is responsible for preparing and implementing the welding documentation and Quality is responsible for validation of it. We encourage advancement and offer tangible development opportunities! **In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:** + Provide overall technical direction to the welding and post-welding processes, develop and implement effective work processes for optimal service levels using LEAN Manufacturing methods ensuring World Class Manufacturing (WCM). + Coordinate Process Transfers and New Product Implementations from a manufacturing engineering perspective for welding and post-welding processes. + Participate in global multi-functional product design and improvement teams, providing product and process design expertise necessary to ensure manufacturability and achievement of standards. + Support and implement the Global 1Factory Initiative, ensure sustainable welding process, initiate kaizen events, coordinate and implement global process compliance audits, support TPM strategy. + Ensure sharing and adopting standard processes between sites per 1Factory strategy. + Develop, and specify through PMAPS, manufacturing processes; implement and improve these. + Define tooling and fixture requirements and initiate tooling improvement projects. + Work with Quality Assurance, Material- and Design Engineering to disposition discrepant parts and assemblies, assign causes, and initiate corrective actions. Identify system related causes and initiate action to correct. Explain causes and action in Customer Experience Reports (CER’s). + Identify and help resolve potential Environment, Health and Safety hazards in manufacturing. + Initiate, assess and implement approved capital projects of all sizes including welding automation and support capital projects for other world areas. + Coordinate and implement Global Manufacturing Engineering audits and support internal and global audits for various standards, e.g. PED, ISO9001, ASME section 9, ISO3834, ISO14731, ISO9606, ISO15614, and ISO9712 + Investigate Non-Conformities (NC’s), resolve and investigate preventive improvement actions. + Resolve manufacturing engineering related corrective actions from Out-of-Box Quality inspections. + Maintain documentation to support manufacturing processes, testing and training. + Support (and train) operators in production processes with focus on Welding. + Develop highly-skilled welders and identify the necessary welding trainings to increase the welders’ knowledge and capabilities; carry out knowledge transfers for impactful OJT (on the job training). + Solve welding equipment/systems. + Work with 3rd party endorsing organizations for certification. + Introduce new processes to support new products and run pilots to ensure manufacturability. + Guide changes in products/processes with the European Configuration Team. + Develop and design work procedures **Who You Are:** You optimally communicate in various settings: one-on-one, small and large groups, or among diverse styles and position levels. You seek ways to improve processes, from small tweaks to complete reengineering. **For This Role, You Will Need:** + Bachelor degree in Welding Engineering or Material Science (or equivalent). + Preferably International Welding Engineering (IWE) or International Welding Specialist (IWS) certification. + 2 or more years’ experience as a TIG welder is beneficial. + Minimum of 5 years’ experience providing Welding Engineering support in a manufacturing setting. + Knowledge of machining, mechanical assembly, testing, is considered a plus. + Knowledge of welding equipment. + Experience with integrated robotic welding systems. + Experience with programming robotic systems, preferred experience with Yaskawa systems + Experience with austenitic stainless steel and nickel base materials; + Fluent English language skills; verbal, reading and writing.
