The Virginia Beach JMT office is seeking a motivated individual who desires increasing responsibilities in designing Water Resources Engineering for a variety of clients, project types and procurement methods. The candidate will be responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments under the direction of a Professional Engineer. The position is full-time in the office. This position is not eligible for employer-based sponsorship except for the TN visa classification.
Essential functions and responsibilities
+ Analyze surveys, reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, GIS, and other topographical or geologic data to complete hydrology and hydraulic tasks
+ Perform design computations, plan development and report drafting in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
+ Assist with developing the project quantities for construction cost estimate
+ Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction
+ Perform self quality control checks as well as review colleagues work for correctness

Required SkillsRequired Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from ABET accredited engineering program
+ 0-3 years of experience in civil engineering or related field
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office
+ Written and oral communication skills
Preferred Experience
+ Engineer-in-training certification
+ Related experience through coursework, internships, or full time employment
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25lbs) may be required as needed.
