SUMMARY:
The MS-WWTO position involves a wide range of responsibilities, which may include, but are not limited to, the operation of a wastewater analysis laboratory; maintenance and operation of wastewater collection systems; pre-treatment and full treatment wastewater systems; and other types of water or wastewater treatment facilities. Duties may encompass sample collection in compliance with EPA, state, and health department regulations; conducting various chemical analyses both in the lab and on-site; adjusting systems based on test results; ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance through informed decision-making; and performing algebra-based calculations using a calculator. Additional responsibilities include generating computerized reports, compiling and submitting monthly reports as required by permits, regulatory bodies, or corporate management. The role also requires fundamental organizational, mechanical, and electrical wiring skills; effective communication of operational status to management; maintaining detailed operation logs; conducting equipment maintenance ranging from minor to major repairs; and operating equipment such as spotter trucks and forklifts.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in wastewater operations is preferred.
Computer Skills: Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication abilities are essential.
Certifications & Training: Must complete a site-selected stormwater training program within 30 days of hire. Must successfully complete “Industrial Waste Treatment, Volume I” and “Industrial Waste Treatment, Volume II” correspondence courses through California State University, Sacramento within 12 months. Must obtain the entry-level state certification for wastewater treatment within 12 months or as required by state regulations.
Licensing & Advancement: A valid driver’s license is required. The candidate must be willing and able to pursue higher-level certifications and training up to Level A at the facility. Failure to obtain or maintain the required certifications per state regulations will result in disqualification from the MS-WWTO role, with the option to transfer, bid on other roles, or be subject to termination.
Physical Requirements: Must be capable of lifting 50–75 pounds. Requires the ability to climb or descend stairs and ladders. Tasks may include grounds maintenance, painting, general cleaning, working in unsanitary environments, and handling hazardous chemicals. HAZ-MAT training must be obtained and maintained as part of job duties.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Travel: Occasional travel required (1–2 trips per year).
