Warehouse Automation Systems Engineer II- San Marcos, TX
Responsibilities JOB SUMMARY As an IP Systems Engineer II, you'll be a key technical SME ensuring automation system availability and optimization. You'll work with other H-E-B engineers, Digital, and operational partners to optimize the performance and flow of Integrated Material Handling Equipment. You'll assist in building automation Root Cause Analysis, continuous improvement, and new installation initiatives for your assigned location. KEY RESPONSIBILITY & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Systems Engineering: - Acts as a key escalation point during downtime events, leading root cause analysis efforts and ensuring corrective actions are documented and integrated into training and SOPs. - Analyzes error log trends proactively, prioritizing recurring issues and collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement long-term resolutions. - Oversees the performance and reliability of assigned systems, maintaining in-depth knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and control systems across integrated MHE, including conveyors, sorters, robotics, and AS/RS. - Leverages advanced diagnostic tools and data analytics to identify inefficiencies and recommend system enhancements that improve automation performance and reliability. - Collaborates closely with maintenance and operations teams, providing technical guidance and ensuring alignment on system functionality and performance standards. Systems Development: - Develops system documentation, clearly outlining system purpose, scope, and key components. - Creates and updates flow diagrams that represent system architecture and component capacity based on current operational expectations. - Defines and maintains standard settings for automated equipment, including parameters like speed, timing, and force, in collaboration with engineering teams. - Executes and documents preventive maintenance procedures, ensuring system components function reliably and escalating issues when needed. - Creates communication diagrams and recovery procedures, supporting system continuity and quick response during equipment failures. - Develops escalation procedures, helping to build decision matrices and define support pathways. - Prepares weekly reports on system utilization and equipment OOE, highlighting trends and potential areas for improvement. - Maintains logs of unresolved system issues, tracking responsible teams and estimated resolution timelines. - Identifies and proposes improvement opportunities, outlining potential benefits and estimated timelines for review and approval. QUALIFICATIONS & KEY REQUIREMENTS: Intermediate individual contributor in a professional role. Works independently within an established framework, receiving detailed instructions only on new assignments. Possesses specialized knowledge and skills required to perform the role. Applies practical knowledge, learned theories, concepts, principles, and methodologies to difficult but non-complex, conventional assignments. Majority of work efforts are focused on meeting objectives related to implementation or delivery of processes, programs, and/or policies. Builds productive internal and external working relationships. Bachelor's degree or additional role-relevant experience. 2+ years of relevant experience preferred. - 2+ years' experience in automated systems environment - Engineering degree (preferred) or comparable experience - Knowledge of PLC Ladder logic - Microsoft office skills, including Visio and advanced excel skills to review large data sets - Ability to create flow diagrams to represent integrated systems capacity - Advanced understanding of function of major components within a control system network - Ability to lead out on communicating system capacity and potential - Understanding of Warehouse Control Systems and Warehouse Management Systems - Ability to monitor communication between multiple systems and decipher message content - Ability to adjust communication based on the audience The responsibilities and essential functions outlined above describe the general nature and level of work assigned to this position.
