Purpose

The Warehouse and Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the daily operations of University Housing and Dining (UHD) warehouse and transportation team.

Responsibilities

Oversee warehouse staff to ensure the efficient receipt, storage, and distribution of food items and supplies from various vendors and dining facilities, while maintaining high standards of inventory management and compliance with food safety regulations. Maintain effective communication with regards to product receipt and distribution among dining units. Promptly respond to requests and resolve any reported issues. Develop and maintain relationships with dining unit leaders, vendors, and campus partners. Operate material handling equipment including forklift, pallet jack, dolly and drive a large box truck to transport goods and materials to designated locations, ensuring timely and safe deliveries.  

Motivate and inspire employees to achieve high performance and operational excellence while fostering a collaborative and engaged work environment. Interview, hire, train, schedule, and supervise warehouse staff. Conduct staff evaluations as per UHD/UT policy. Ensures that all staff remain current with required compliance training for both UT and UHD.

Review and sign all invoices in accordance with UHD Business Services standards to ensure accuracy and compliance with department/university policies. Accurately scan and upload all signed invoices to the designated Business Services folder in a timely manner. Distribute scanned invoices to the appropriate units or departments for processing and recordkeeping, maintaining proper documentation and tracking.   

Implement and manage a computerized scan inventory system in collaboration with the UHD IT department and FoodPro staff. Conducts weekly inventory. Work closely with FoodPro staff to verify the accuracy of transfer data and resolve any discrepancies.

Work closely with UHD Dining leadership regarding needs for special events such as special meals, move-in, orientation, surplus etc. Works closely with Retail operations leadership and unit level managers to coordinate deliveries, pickups, and special events.

Maintain warehouse and food storage areas to meet federal, state, local, and university food safety requirements. Submit work orders on needed repairs and work closely with UHD facilities team regarding care and maintenance of equipment. Work with University Fleet Management to ensure adequate maintenance of warehouse delivery vehicles. 

Adhere to written and oral University and UHD policies such as time and attendance and UHD / UT trainings and compliance.  Complete and maintain required food safety training, including Texas Food Handler Safety. Follow work safety guidelines and utilize proper PPE as needed. Other duties as assigned.  

Required Qualifications

Bachelors Degree.

At least 3 years of experience in a supervisory and/or manager capacity in a warehouse, receiving, or similar environment.

Ability to become a certified forklift operator.

Ability to complete and maintain University Housing and Dining Food Safety Training and/or ServSafe. 

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

3 or more years of experience working in warehousing, receiving, or similar environment.

Experience supervising 3 or more warehouse staff.

Experience in purchasing food or food service supplies.

Experience in computerized inventory and ordering systems.  

Knowledge of warehouses and delivery equipment.  

Experience using Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Certified to operate forklift. 

Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills and professional demeanor.

Demonstrated attention to detail.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$60,000+ depending on qualifications
