VP of Fleet Management

 

The VP of Fleet Management and Logistics is responsible for leading and driving a coordinated fleet management plan on all facets of Fleet Management / Maintenance and Logistics (Transportation and Reload Warehouse Distribution). Develop and execute strategies that support day to day operations and maximize, asset planning & utilization, fuel conservation, vendor management, vehicle safety & compliance, productivity, environmental management, carrier partnerships across the logistics space continuous improvement as well as financial performance. This position will provide strategic direction and support to fleet operations / logistics, establish, and maintain KPIs and drive a productive work environment with clear and precise guidelines and standard operating procedures. Additionally, the VP of Fleet and Logistics will provide directions for employee enhancement, effectively establish objectives and performance standards regarding evaluations, strengths & weaknesses, attendance, conduct and technological skills and will drive change and encourage growth to achieve our goals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, implement, and manage short and long-term strategic and tactical plans to achieve the business unit and Company’s goals and objectives as it pertains to Fleet Management and Logistics. Develop and manage a comprehensive asset utilization plan for maximum asset availability. Align with Operations Management and Financial Management on an annual fleet financial and logistics plan and tactical/strategic initiatives. Develop and lead Asset Planning, fuel conservation, vendor management, Vehicle Mechanical Safety, productivity, and Environmental Management for our entire fleet. Ensure contingency policies, systems and practices are in place to prevent and eliminate business disruption including timely delivery / registration of new assets. Ensure compliance with (and establish where needed) SOP’s in the areas of driver routing/dispatch, fuel and materials usage, capacity planning, employee relations and various other process areas. Utilize data, analysis, LEAN Six Sigma tools and reporting of transportation metrics to drive continual process improvement and cost reduction. Supervisory responsibilities of direct reports - Supervises assigned team members (in-person & remote); talent selection and training; planning, assigning, & directing work; performance management, including conducting performance reviews & goal setting; recognizing team members; addressing & resolving concerns timely, escalate for help when necessary. Create, develop, and maintain Playbooks, Best Practices, Standard Operating procedures for all Fleet and Logistics related initiatives. Build and sustain strong business relationships with Operations, Health & Safety, Finance, and other relevant internal and external stakeholders. Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices and ensures that employees observe all safety procedures and practices to prevent injuries or damage. Develop and implement logistics strategies to support the supply chain, ensuring alignment with business objectives and initiatives. Oversee the end-to-end delivery of goods from suppliers to manufacturing, distribution centers, and last-mile delivery to customers. Ensure goods are delivered On Time and In Full (OTIF) across the supply chain network. Driving for world class service experience in multiple modes of delivery including trucking, rail, and ocean freight. Drive strong partnerships with transportation partners and suppliers to negotiate optimal and cost-effective transport solutions. Initiate investigations into process failures and implement corrective and preventive actions. Develop a strategy for continuous improvement, including productivity and efficiency enhancements. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including safety, quality, and other critical requirements. Leverage technology and digital solutions to enhance logistics operations and drive efficiencies. Lead and develop a high-performing logistics team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. Deliver improvements in asset utilization, to include the utilization of rotating assets to extend the useful life, consistent preventative maintenance with PM compliance at goal Rationalization and alignment on asset specifications to improve purchasing efficiency and the ability to rotate assets. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises assigned employees including staff selection and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting performance reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

Bachelor’s degree in business management, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Operations Management or related field, fifteen (15) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong customer service focus and problem-solving approach to meeting operational needs. Continuous improvement methodology knowledge and experience are an asset. Working knowledge of DOT regulations Ability to encourage, motivate, and guide individuals or teams in learning and improving effectiveness Strong analytical and organizational skills adapted to a fast-paced work environment. Excellent negotiation skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups. Ability to build strong relationships across organizational lines from team members to customers/ clients and other functional leads etc.

 

COMPETENCIES

Working knowledge and/or background in purchasing, logistics and inventory management in the building material industry Strong background in dealing with rail and truck carriers Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills Excellent negotiation skills Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to execute plans/projects through others Strong analytical skills to interpret data and analyze trends Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and an enterprise resource planning (ERP) program
