VP of Accounting & Finance
Description Our client is looking for an experienced and strategic leader to serve as the VP of Accounting & Finance for a $25M+ non-profit in Washington, DC. This role is crucial in shaping and optimizing financial operations, ensuring compliance with federal grant requirements, and aligning financial resources to support organizational goals. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in nonprofit financial leadership (an expert in federal funding, OMB Uniform Guidance and Single Audit process) who has a passion for driving mission-driven impact through effective financial management. Responsibilities: • Advise the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer and executive leadership on financial strategy, long-term planning, and forecasting. • Lead the annual budgeting process and provide comprehensive support for departmental budget initiatives. • Interpret complex financial data to deliver actionable insights for staff, board members, and funders. • Ensure compliance with federal grant requirements, including Uniform Guidance regulations, and oversee the Single Audit process. • Collaborate with program and development teams to develop compliant proposal budgets and manage grant reporting. • Oversee monthly financial close processes, reporting, and variance analysis to ensure accuracy and timeliness. • Strengthen financial controls and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency. • Maintain and optimize dashboards and tools to improve internal financial transparency and visibility. • Supervise the Accounting & Finance Manager and Senior Contracts Manager while providing leadership to additional staff accountants. • Cultivate a collaborative and high-performing team culture within the finance department. The ideal candidate for this VP of Accounting & Finance will have a BS in Accounting, 10+ years of non-profit accounting with an expertise in federal grants, Uniform Guidance regs and the Single Audit process, strong supervisory skills and budgeting/forecasting with the ability to communicate with upper management as well as peers/subordinates. This role will be the right hand to the CFAO who is an incredible leader. Comp range for this role is a base salary somewhere between 165k-185K plus full benefits. Requirements • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance, including at least 3 years in nonprofit financial leadership. • Proven expertise in managing federal grants and preparing for Single Audits. • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting standards, Uniform Guidance, and restricted fund management. • Strategic mindset with the ability to connect financial operations to organizational impact. • Exceptional communication skills for translating financial data into actionable insights for diverse audiences. • Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring finance teams. • Proficiency in financial reporting, budgeting processes, and compliance with U.S. GAAP. • Advanced knowledge of tools and systems for monthly financial reporting and forecasting.
