VP & Actuary, Claims Actuarial Insights

Claims Actuarial Insights strives to empower claims professionals with actionable intelligence.  The team works closely with senior leaders to identify claims trends, develop performance metrics, and provide catastrophe projections and reporting.  Projects are primarily focused on North America but overseas opportunities exist.  This department is a great place for someone who would like to develop strategic thinking, business acumen, and communication skills. 

We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Vice President & Actuary to lead Claims Actuarial Insights.  The role reports to the Senior Vice President & Actuary of Claims Business Intelligence, Actuarial Insights, and Advanced Analytics.  This position is based in Whitehouse Station, NJ.

Responsibilities: 

Lead a team of 10+ onshore and offshore resources at different experience levels.  Work with managers on the team to effectively set and track priorities, delegate and review assignments, create efficient workflows, and ensure on-time and quality deliverables.  Apply an actuarial framework to produce catastrophe projections, reporting, and analyses.  Support and drive transformation within these processes.  Effectively communicate the rationale for and changes in ultimate loss projections to Claims Senior Management.  Act as subject matter expert for the company’s catastrophe data. Deliver analytical support in monitoring claim results, trends, and performance metrics.  Drive new initiatives forward to provide greater insights into additional areas, such as productivity, large loss management, and loss development. Provide updates on key metrics to Claims, Actuarial, Finance, and Underwriting Senior Leadership. Foster a data focused mindset in order to improve data quality, improve data availability, and  influence claim data strategy.  Work directly with the Business Intelligence and Data teams to ensure data strategy aligns with the team’s projects and mission. Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills to support the department’s strategic initiatives and help drive forward transformation efforts.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; 10+ years of experience in property/casualty actuarial disciplines; ACAS or FCAS credentialStrong leadership skills with prior managerial experience and excellent project management skillsStrategic mindset with strong financial and operational acumenProficiency in Excel and working knowledge of VBAProficiency in SQL server; Working knowledge of R or Python is a plusWorking knowledge of QlikSense, Power BI, or Cognos is a plusStrong analytical skills with the ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written communications to non-actuarial business leadersStrong organizational and documentation skillsThriving in a fast-paced, fluid environment

The pay range for the role is $170,300 to $289,500. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors.
