CNN is looking for a Vice President, Streaming Merchandising, that  is responsible for the daily editorial decision-making and content optimization for our 24/7 streaming news service. Sitting at the intersection of editorial, product, and audience strategy, this leader will execute the programming vision, oversee a tactical execution team, and collaborate closely with adjacent teams responsible for the programming across web, mobile, and Owned & Operated (O&O) platforms. 
 

This position is best suited for an experienced digital news leader with expertise in live news programming, editorial judgment, and data-driven content strategy. The role requires a balance of breaking news agility and strategic content planning to maintain an engaging and relevant streaming experience. 

Your Role Accountabilities…

Editorial Programming & Daily Execution 

Oversee real-time programming of the streaming service, ensuring a dynamic mix of feeds, segments, and curated news packages.

Manage the daily content & coverage calendar in tight alignment with Global News and existing Programming teams, aligning breaking news and evolving stories with scheduled programming and evergreen content. 

Lead content placement and curation for the service’s carousels, featured segments, and key programming blocks. 

Be key partner with Growth Marketing to test and iterate on promotion best practices, tentpoles, and moment-driven engagement involving our content. 

Work closely with news editors and video teams to identify high-performing content and determine the best placement for maximum audience reach. 

Develop best practices for content selection, breaking news protocols related to streaming specific needs, rotation cadence, and audience engagement tactics based on performance analytics. 

Attend daily morning news meetings to ensure alignment of the streaming merchandising to the news agenda of the day. 

Live Feed & Special Event Programming 

Optimize live event programming for streaming.

Partner with live operations and video production teams to ensure seamless execution. 

Work with newsroom leadership to align streaming programming with broader editorial priorities and balance unique experience opportunities that streaming provides for audiences with brand promise. 

Collaboration with Adjacent Digital Teams 

Work in tandem with web, mobile, and O&O product programming leads to maintain a cohesive content strategy across platforms. 

Partner with growth and audience development teams to understand viewer engagement and optimize content based on insights. 

Collaborate with product and technology teams to enhance UI/UX for content discovery, helping to inform how users interact with the streaming service. 

Coordinate with growth marketing, marketing and social teams to amplify major programming moments and drive audience awareness. 

Team Management & Leadership 

Lead a team of digital programming editors, content schedulers, and streaming producers. 

Provide clear editorial direction and real-time decision-making guidance for the team. 

Establish a newsroom-style tactical workflow that integrates planning with live decision-making. 

Maintain strong relationships with newsroom leadership, video teams, and technical operations to ensure smooth content execution. 

Qualifications & Experience…

10+ years of digital news or news programming experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity. 

Proven expertise in live news programming, including managing breaking news coverage and coordinating live video feeds. 

Strong editorial judgment with a deep understanding of news cycles, audience behavior, and digital content performance. 

Experience overseeing content curation for streaming platforms, including managing content placement and discovery optimization. 

Ability to work in a fast-paced, real-time decision-making environment. 

Deep familiarity with newsroom operations, video production workflows, and digital platform programming. 

Experience leading and developing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, urgency, and editorial excellence.

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $157,500.00 - $292,500.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
