About Global Supply Management 

Global Supply Management (GSM) is responsible for partnering with Amex colleagues to optimize their third-party spend. The team provides strategic consultation to the business while providing end-to-end procurement services. It maximizes the purchasing power of the enterprise to drive the best value from its supplier base which then frees-up investment capacity for the enterprise. GSM, together with its business partners, manages the supplier strategy for the enterprise: identifying and on-boarding new third-party suppliers, realizing significant cost savings, and generating value through collaboration with GCS and GMNS.

About the Role

The Vice President, SS&BE – Technology will work in partnership with American Express business partners to understand their priorities and purchasing strategies in order to focus on strategic consultation and delivery to maximize the purchasing power of their supplier spend.  This VP will be GSM’s interface to all senior leaders, and third-party suppliers for this category.   

The VP will also be responsible for understanding marketplace trends, developing demand management strategies, and conducting vendor rationalization to help business partners achieve the optimal supplier mix to drive innovation and growth. Technology is a key strategic area of spend for the company and this is an exciting opportunity to help transform how we manage spend and collaborate with our Business Unit partners across the enterprise.    

Key Responsibilities: 

Manage approximately $2.6Bin annual category spend, inclusive of IT Labor spend, software, services, hardware, and infrastructure. Lead development of category management spend profile, strategies, and industry benchmarking and prepare presentations and dashboards to discuss with internal stakeholders and third-party suppliers to realize saves, influence demand, and drive other value add benefits to free up investment dollars to drive growth.  Establish and maintain close relationships with business partners to understand key business strategies, annual goals/objectives, and economic challenges/opportunities.  Oversee technology labor supplier list, process improvements with a focus on reducing time to market, monitoring, and analyzing performance, and enhancing the AXP colleague user experience.  Understand technology category dynamics and trends to ensure American Express has the right supplier mix that align with Enterprise needs.  Grow and develop procurement teams to create a culture of strong strategic thinking, financial analytics, and partnering closely with business units to influence and help drive key, strategic business decisions.  Demonstrate strong leadership and exceptional partnering skills including ability to contract and influence with and without authority at all levels, within GSM, across functional teams and with key vendor partners.  Have a strong understanding of the regulatory environment and its impact to the Enterprise and key functions across GSM.  Maintain and promote the Blue Box Values by ensuring that work is completed to the highest professional, legal, and regulatory standards, and that the activities subject to review/procurement comply with Enterprise business ethics  

Qualifications:  

Experience in Shared Services, Procurement or related field is strongly preferred.  Deep understanding of opportunities and the broader business issues within Technology to be able to capitalize on category changes and future trends.  Strong track-record in people leadership – able to motivate and develop a team and structure work to prioritize effectively and to deliver high-quality output with limited resources and work collaboratively with colleagues and partners across the world.  Excellent people skills, including relationship management, communication, negotiation, influencing, planning, presentation, and motivation.   Strong general manager, including strategic thinking, financial acumen, negotiation skills and team leadership.  Proven track record of data analysis to develop insights and recommendations, as well as developing professional strategic presentations for senior audiences.  Collaborative mindset and passion for enterprise thinking and partnering across multiple levels.  Ability to manage day-to-day business priorities along with long-term strategic deliverables.  Passion for using analytics to develop insights and recommendations, solve business challenges, improve the customer experience, and drive bottom line results.  Deep experience presenting and communicating to executive level audiences Positive attitude, flexibility, and ability to deal with ambiguity and rapid change. 

Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
