What you'll do The Vice President, Government Transformation is the business leader in charge of the end-to-end transformation of Viasat’s Government business, owning strategy, execution, and results. Viasat is embarking on a pivotal journey to operate its Government business as a largely independent entity. We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Transformation Lead to drive this strategic initiative to create a streamlined, highly competitive organization with independent go-to-market, manufacturing, quality, supply-chain, security, facilities-management, and selected back-office capabilities, while preserving critical synergies with Viasat’s commercial segments. The candidate will establish and oversee a time-bound transformation program that aligns organization design, operating-model, governance, and strategic processes. They will lead overhead-reduction and cost-allocation initiatives to sharpen competitive rates under FAR, CAS, and Truth-in-Negotiations requirements. They will guide real estate and supply-network rationalization toward lower-cost hubs such as Tempe and Duluth, and partner with Global Business Services to deploy a lean shared-services model that captures scale without adding government-specific compliance drag to the commercial business. The role requires a track record of effective teamwork, demonstrated successful collaboration across a matrixed organization, and a unique blend of process and strategic capability with business and technical acumen in the government and commercial space sector, as well as productive, positive relationships with customers and partners that will allow them to hit the ground running as they assume leadership of our transformation program. The ideal candidate combines intelligence, experience, confidence, humility, and superior communication skills that enable the ability to achieve results with both influence and authority to build a solid foundation for an independently executing government business with new and existing functions. The day-to-day • Translate the strategic vision of establishing the Government business into a largely independent entity by architecting a comprehensive, phased transformation roadmap to validate the to be organization for each business and functional area. This includes developing current state workflows and value stream maps for all highly leveraged processes, developing and analyzing current software tools, identifying transformative improvements and developing targeted solutions, including cost and schedule to implement, as well as developing the rate strategy transformation in addition to improving productivity, efficiency, and quality. • Stand up and chair a Transformation Program Office, setting a time-bound roadmap, governance cadence, and KPI scorecard that tracks cost, schedule, risk and talent outcomes for every work-stream. • Program-manage the transformation roadmap: people, processes, systems, and physical assets, ensuring key milestones are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. • Analyze and manage interdependencies across various business and functional areas within the Government business and with the broader Viasat organization as required. • Work collaboratively with Viasat leaders to set and track cost-out, schedule and risk KPIs; report to the Viasat Government President and Viasat CEO and board. • Mentor a diverse team; instill continuous-improvement mind-set through Lean, Six Sigma and Agile methods. • Champion a culture of “One Viasat” that empowers and motivates multiple cross-functional workstreams and teams, ensuring alignment and effective collaboration in Carlsbad, Tempe, Duluth and other Viasat locations • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks and issues that could impact the transformation, developing contingency plans as needed. • Act as a highly influential change agent, building consensus and fostering adoption of new processes and ways of working across all levels of the Government business. • Develop and execute a comprehensive communication plan to ensure clear, consistent, and timely communication with all relevant stakeholders. • Identify, engage, and manage expectations of diverse stakeholders to secure buy-in and overcome resistance. • Collaborate with business and functional area teams to identify, design, and implement new or revised processes, policies, and systems required for the Government business' independent operation. • Develop and manage detailed transition plans to ensure a smooth handoff and operational readiness of the independent Government business at the conclusion of the transformation. • Define and plan for post-transformation support to ensure sustained success and continuous improvement. What you'll need • Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, engineering, or a related field. An advanced degree (MBA, Master's) is highly preferred. • 10 + years leading large-scale transformations in aerospace, defense or advanced-manufacturing environments • Proven expertise separating or integrating government and commercial business lines, including FAR/CAS compliance, export-control governance and secure-facility operations. • High emotional intelligence, intellectual curiosity, and a servant-leadership style that motivates matrixed teams • Demonstrated success reducing overhead and renegotiating indirect-cost pools to improve Price-to-Win. • Formal training or certification in change management methodologies (e.g., Prosci ADKAR) or project management (e.g., PMP). • Proven ability to lead complex strategic programs and drive large-scale organizational change from inception through successful completion. • Strong understanding of government contracting, regulatory compliance, and security requirements. Salary range $258,500.00 - $368,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $313,000.00- $423,000.00/ annually At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
