VP, Global Commercial Product Strategy, Oncology TA Lead

Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Global Commercial Product Strategy and Operations (GCSO), this individual creates the long-term and integrated commercial vision of the Oncology therapeutic area. This position represents the therapeutic area from a commercialization perspective to provide insight and input throughout the drug development process including clinical trial design, clinical endpoints, lifecycle management, and portfolio prioritization. The therapeutic area lead ensures the key commercialization strategic issues for all brands and assets are identified and acted upon. In addition, they will lead a team of ~20 responsible for the global commercialization of the oncology portfolio consisting of multiple late-stage assets, early internal pipeline assets, and an external opt in pipeline encompassing dozens of clinical studies across disease areas. S/he also partner with cross-functional leaders such as Medical Affairs, Value and Access, Clinical Development, and Government Affairs and other functions to co-create a unified therapeutic area strategy.  In addition, it is critical to partner with Region Heads, General Managers, and other key affiliate leaders to ensure our global with local operating model is successful and drives optimal results.

This individual will lead a team responsible for the Oncology portfolio including global launch planning for new products, overseeing the marketing of approved products across markets, partnering with business development to assess potential partnerships and acquisitions, commercial perspectives of pipeline assets and Oncology therapeutic area and disease area strategies. This area is a strategic priority for Gilead and an opportunity to lead and shape our approach in this critical area.

The successful therapeutic area leader will be a dynamic, experienced individual with a strong track record of strategy and team leadership in Oncology across a variety of settings and topics in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry. S/he must have the proven ability to effectively manage complex and ambiguous projects, influence stakeholders without authority, effectively network across the organization and communicate with senior leaders all within a fast moving, challenging and dynamic commercial environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and execute on a holistic Oncology therapeutic area strategic vision to balance near-term and long- term priorities and commit to a course of action to accomplish established goals. Co-creation with key matrix stakeholders is a key skillset required.Providing strategic thinking and enterprise mindset to allow for identification of future market opportunities, review of the franchise portfolio and prioritization of opportunities for internal research, and external opportunities for potential acquisition or partneringThrough partnership with Oncology TA Leaders and Oncology Program Strategy Leaders across the organization, ensure the commercial perspective and strategy is well articulated, communicated, and agreed to by relevant parties (including our partners at Kite as appropriate) for key decisionsBuild out, lead and develop an industry leading team of ~20 responsible for the global commercialization of the oncology portfolio consisting of multiple late-stage assets with rich lifecycle plans, multiple early internal pipeline assets, and an external opt in pipeline encompassing dozens of clinical studies across disease areasRepresent commercial leadership on multiple partnership Steering CommitteesDecision maker on oncology governance committeesPartner with development to ensure robust life cycle plans and integrated evidence plans are developed for compounds from IND stage through loss of exclusivityOversee early-stage and external molecule commercial assessments including target product profiles, market research and pipeline strategies.Lead the development of disease area strategies within the scope defined by the TA strategy.Oversee the development of launch planning for new products including a differentiating strategy, unique branding, compelling positioning, key messaging and the overall global launch campaign.Provide oversight into the development of in-line and pipeline products including indication strategic plans, and integrated evidence plan that will differentiate the product for marketing and reimbursement. Ensures that robust insights are guiding plans and leading to strong in-market performance.Coordinate and cooperate cross-functionally with R&D, Medical Affairs, Government Affairs, Value and Access, Health Economics and other functions as required to carry out the therapeutic area strategy and ensure strategic solutions carry a cross-functional perspective.Forge strong working relationships with regional commercial partners, cross functional leadership and senior executives.Support assessment, evaluation, and integration of Business Development deals.Demonstrate strong people leadership aligned with Gilead’s People Leader Accountabilities, and lead by example, respecting Gilead core values of integrity, accountability, teamwork, excellence, and inclusion.

Qualifications:

Integrative decision-making considering alternatives and trade-offs based on logical assumptions, available resources, constraints and organizational valuesStrong strategic thinking using knowledge of economic, financial, market and industry trends to contribute to effective business strategies and tacticsStrong track record of cross functional collaboration and co-creation with internal and external partners.Technical expertise in end to end lifecycle management of a brand, launch planning and execution, and disease area assessment; support of R&D through the drug development process; and evaluation of business development and pipeline opportunitiesExpertise in the field of Oncology with a solid understanding of the disease, epidemiology, humanistic and cultural dynamics in the field, and the underlying science underpinning the various approaches toward treatment and prevention of diseaseEffectively communicates with and influences others and seen as a thought partner to senior leaders in the organization and is able to use effective persuasion to gain acceptance of ideasSupports the development of team and individual’s knowledge, skills and abilities so they can fulfil job responsibilities more effectively and efficientlyAn inspiring leader garnering trust and motivating individuals and teams toward higher levels of engagement and performance aligned with the organizations needs and vision.15+  years’ experience working in the biopharmaceutical industry in marketing and sales roles with increasing responsibilities, complexity and accountabilities; experience working in global markets such the European Union, Japan or other major markets is highly desirableExperience in both in-line and global marketingFive or more years of experience marketing in the Oncology therapeutic areaBA/BS degree required; an MBA and/or advanced scientific or medical degree highly desired
