Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced attorney to join the Voya Investment Management (“Voya IM”) Legal team supporting a broad range of investment management-related legal matters. This role will focus on advising internal stakeholders on investment advisory arrangements, investment transactions, and the legal aspects of our investment platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in the asset management business including experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating investment-related agreements, restructuring experience and familiarity with regulatory regimes applicable to asset managers.

Job Responsibilities 

Review, negotiate, and advise internal stakeholders on a wide range of legal documents, including investment management agreements, NDAs, and investment transaction documents.

Review and negotiate documents involved in making private investments acquired for Voya IM’s advisory clients, including insurance company general accounts.     

Provide legal support for restructuring of debt investments held by Voya IM client accounts and participate in ad hoc lenders committees.

Work cross-functionally with compliance, finance and risk teams to assess legal and regulatory risks related to investments, products and strategies.

Provide legal support to the Voya IM investment advisory, trust company, insurance company, investment company, private fund, commingled fund, and pension fund investment activities.

Familiarity with applicable asset management regulations, including Investment Advisers Act, SEC and FINRA regulations, ERISA, ‘40 Act and certain non-US regulatory regimes.

Monitor and advise on advisory regulatory matters.   

Partner with counsel in affiliated Voya Financial companies to facilitate business activities.   

Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with Voya IM colleagues and partners, colleagues in Voya Financial, and external clients and counterparties.   

Adhere to department and company policies and procedures, including confidentiality.   

Manage and coordinate outside counsel as needed

Knowledge & Experience

J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.

5 to 10 years of legal experience, ideally including both law firm and in-house experience in asset management or financial services.

Voya IM is a leading private credit manager for affiliated and unaffiliated insurance company general accounts.  Experience with insurance regulations related to managing insurance company general account assets is a plus.

Strong relationship management skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization and to work either independently or as a team member.   

Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.   

Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and MS Outlook.   

Reliable, self-starter, detail-oriented, well organized and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Compensation Pay Disclosure:

Voya is committed to pay that’s fair and equitable, which means comparable pay for comparable roles and responsibilities.

The below annual base salary range reflects the expected hiring range(s) for this position in the location(s) listed. In addition to base salary, Voya offers incentive opportunities (i.e., annual cash incentives, sales incentives, and/or long-term incentives) based on the role to reward the achievement of annual performance objectives. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Voya Financial is willing to pay at the time of this posting.

Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted salary range based upon the candidate’s geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

$180,000 to $220,000 USD
