Summary This position is located in the Business Office Services Branch of the Gallup Indian Medical Center in Gallup, NM. The position performs accounts receivable support functions through the follow-up process of all outstanding patient accounts within the Business Office. Responsibilities 07/29/2025: This position is being re-announced to solicit additional candidates. Reviews patient accounts to determine the status of the account, making standard adjustments that require special analysis and prepare and process a variety of documents necessary for the maintenance and follow-up of all outstanding patient accounts. Performs work consisting of examination for accuracy, adequacy of documentation or citation, compliance with regulations, and justification of claims and other requests for payment for such purposes as medical care and treatment. Review delinquent patient account records, following up with responsible parties via telephone and correspondence according to organization policy and procedures. Maintains files system of patient accounts for follow-up with responsible parties. Examine accounts to resolve difficult reconciliation's requiring an analysis of adjustments and corrective entries in the patient account system. Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports utilizing the Accounts Receivable program. Reporting any discrepancies to the supervisor, providing all supporting documents and recommending resolution. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-03: Applicants must have successfully completed 1 year above High School -OR- Your resume must demonstrate at least six (6) months of general experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to perform the work of this position. GS-04: Applicants must have successfully completed 2 years above High School -OR- Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of general experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to perform the work of this position. GS-05: Applicants must have successfully completed 4 years above High School leading to a Bachelors Degree -OR- Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: processing third party health plan transactions, compiling reports, coordinating collection for third party reimbursement, maintaining automated accounts receivable ledger, posting claim payments, monitoring claim payment rollover to secondary and tertiary billing, generate Aging summary reports, reviewing patients accounts. NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable. Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-5 and below. For GS-5 level positions, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. GS-06:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Coordinating collection for third party reimbursement, maintaining automate accounts receivable ledger, posting claim payments, monitoring claim payment rollover to secondary and tertiary billing, generate Aging summary reports, reviewing patient accounts, resolving difficult reconciliations. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. No recruitment or relocation incentives authorized.
