Overview

The Vocational Specialist works within an interdisciplinary team intended to provide intensive, frequent, wrap-around services to individuals who have a diagnosis of serious and persistent mental illness. The Vocational Specialist is assigned to persons served individualized treatment teams who have identified goal of pursuing gainful employment and/or higher education and work along-side other specialists in carrying out rehabilitative interventions specific to vocational development. As part of the person(s) served individualized treatment team, the Vocational Specialist is responsible for conducting assessments that monitor the person(s) served’ s goals and functioning on an ongoing basis. The Vocational Specialist typically sees approximately 16 to 20 persons served within 1 working week and is expected to communicate interactions with the person served at daily team meetings and documenting these interventions in the Electronic Health Record.

Responsibilities Conducting a variety of clinical assessments to monitor persons served goal areas and functioning on an ongoing basis.Carries out interventions in the community and effectively communicates each interaction to the team in daily team meetings, as well as in the electronic health record.Frequent activities include resource maintenance and acquisition, coordination with external providers and natural supports, monitoring the vocational development needs and processes.The Vocational Specialist is considered the team expert on supported employment practices.The Vocational Specialist is part of crisis response at the lowest level of escalation, engages in risk mitigation and harm reduction practices.The Vocational Specialist also participates in a rotation of on-call shifts. Qualifications Holds a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields from an accredited college or university, and/or has at least 4,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to persons with serious and persistent mental illness; or holds a graduate degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields.Individuals with 2,000 hours of experience in the delivery of mental health services to adults will also be considered as a Mental Health Rehab Worker until full supervision hours are met.All staff are supported in gaining certification as a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner.The agency encourages staff to seek license at the highest standard permitted by their education and experience.   Additional Job Information

       Must have fine vision, sustained vision, and peripheral vision.

       Must possess sufficient eye/hand coordination to operate office, adaptive, and household equipment.

       Must be able to bend, stoop, push, pull reach, sit, and walk for periods of time.

       Must be able to utilize proper body mechanics while lifting up to 75 pounds.

       Home-like and office settings with varying degrees of background noise.

       Light and ventilation as found in typical home or office setting.  Smoking areas are designated at work locations.

       Hazards may exist if the employee fails to use proper body mechanics when lifting or transporting an individual or             item, if vehicles are not operated safely, or if proper techniques are not used when intervening with individuals.

       The possibility of blood borne pathogens exists if universal precautions are not followed.
