The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting full time opportunity for a Visual Filed Technician (VFT) in Miami, Florida.

The Visual Field Technician (VFT) is primarily responsible for assisting providers by gathering data and performing tests relating to the patient’s visual. This position maintains an environment conducive to the delivery of efficient and high quality eye care.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Determines the optical characteristics of spectacle lenses with the lensometer or autolensometer.

Performs the following test procedures on patients of all ages:

Confrontation fields

Humphrey visual fields

Virtual reality visual fieds (VRVF)

Tangent screen visual fields

Amsler grid

Insertion and removal of hard and soft contact lenses

Administration of eye drops

Auto refraction

Educates patients on testing procedures.

Monitors the progress and facilitates the testing of patients undergoing diagnostic testing and/or consultations in other areas/departments.

Serves as a liaison between physicians, patients, and other departments.

Provides patient-centric care.

Adheres to University of Miami policies, standards, and values.

Complies with regulations and maintains patient confidentiality.

Presents a professional appearance.

Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control.

Completes University of Miami mandatory in-services and online training.

Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned.

Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness.

Meets daily productivity goals.

Ensures all equipment is calibrated, and instrumentation is in proper working order.

Participates in assigned clinical research and maintains required certifications.

Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities.

Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary.

Works evenings and weekends as needed.

Performs organizational duties as assigned.

Makes suggestions to Physicians and/or Practice Managers regarding possible improvements in the practice.

Handless medical emergencies in adherance to hospital policy in a timely and competent manner while putting the patient’s safety and well-being first.

QUALIFICATIONSEducation:

High School diploma or equivalent

Certification and Licensing

Experience:

0-1 years of relevant work experience

Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Demonstrates outstanding interpersonal skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office.
