Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy
Union College invites applications for a two-year position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy (Metaphysics and Epistemology, broadly construed) beginning September 1, 2025. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Applications received by July 6th, 2025 will receive priority consideration. We seek applicants with a specialty in Metaphysics and Epistemology, broadly construed. Areas of competence: Open, with special interest in AI, Philosophy of Technology, Philosophy of Mind. The ideal applicant will have a Ph.D. in philosophy, but advanced ABDs in philosophy will be considered. The successful applicant will be expected to teach in their area(s) of expertise across all levels; ideally, some of these courses will contribute to our General Education Curriculum (please see: https://www.union.edu/common-curriculum/general-education-union). Teaching load is 2 courses per term; Union College’s academic year consists of three 10-week trimesters. About the Philosophy Department: Union College’s Philosophy department hosts one of the most impressive Speaker Series (https://www.union.edu/philosophy/speaker-series) of any undergraduate institution in the country. The department is also home to Ephemeris (https://digitalworks.union.edu/ephemeris/) , an undergraduate philosophy journal, founded in 2001. The department also has a student-run philosophy club. Compensation: The annual salary range for this position is $68,500-$70,500. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
