Summary 

Provide programming and development support for Virtual Reality (VR) systems at Seymour Johnson AFB to enhance FTU training. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

Daily setup and shutdown of VR lab  

Setup specific VR lab profiles, briefings, and demonstrations for academic / training sessions. 

Provide instruction to students/instructors on use of equipment. 

Setup new hardware/software and perform basic troubleshooting. 

Installation of VR simulators, mapping of Hand-On Throttle and Stick (HOTAS) controls, and managing mission profiles  

Produce/Edit/Review and stitch raw 360 videos into viewable VR video clips for academic use. 

Produce / edit 3D drawings / models for academic use 

Participate in project planning and team code reviews 

Management and maintenance of VR simulators, video, 360 cameras and training files database.  

Ensure computers are kept in compliance with the most current security measures. 

VR Subject Matter Expert for information systems 

Provide briefings/tours to demonstrate capabilities of VR lab. 

Hardware Custodian and manager for licenses and accounts hardware/software 

Assist in researching and procurement of commercial technology for “proof of concept” testing. 

May be required to travel to conferences, meetings or other sites to acquire specialized technical development information 

Qualifications 

Required 

BS in computer science, computer engineering or related technical field 

Requisite Certification for C++ primarily (C# considered as well) 

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a software development or programming 

Ability to integrate modeling software utilizing the Unreal Engine game engine. 

Must possess or be able to acquire a Secret Security Clearance 

Understanding and application of: 

High and low polygon count models 

Texture mapping 

Materials (properties) 

Shaders (Anisotropic, Oren-nayar-blinn, Phong, etc.) 

Lighting techniques 

Decimation 

Baking (texture, Normal, lighting) 

FBX 3D file formats 

Desired 

Certification or familiar with C++ and C# 

Programming experience with HTC Vive hardware and software 

Familiar with other versions of commercially available hardware and software required for virtual reality, 3D modeling/drawing, and video editing 

Familiar and capable of setting up, networking, and installing software on gaming computers and laptops 

Ability to acquire DODI 8570 certification. 

Familiarity with the following programs: 

Academic: Steam, Camtasia, GoPro 360 video software, Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Tiltbrush, Masterpiece VR, Google Earth VR, 

Simulator:  DCS, Milvis, FSX, Flyinside, Prepar3D, etc. 

  

Work Environment 

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

Physical Demands 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

May be required to sit down for long lengths of time. 

May be required to climb stairs. 

Must be able to climb stairs to enter and exit a simulator
