Vice President Philanthropy

General Summary

Serves as the executive leader for all foundation and fundraising programs. Works collaboratively with the health system Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer, philanthropy leadership team, and foundation board members to plan, implement and direct a strategic fundraising development program which generates support for the health system by understanding the organization's mission and strategic plan and translates it into fundraising initiatives that are compelling to a wide range of donor interests. Responsible for the comprehensive development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of fund-raising efforts, including campaign management and grateful patient/family program implementation, annual and capital campaign initiatives, planned and major giving, special events and donor relations. Develops a highly engaged and integrated team of both community-based and regional fundraising professionals to coordinate fundraising activities for the System's charitable organizations and transformational initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leads strategic development of philanthropy and major gifts fundraising for the System. Seeks to understand the strategic needs of the organization and develops specific fundraising programs to meet those needs.Promotes support for the various System hospitals' Foundations in their communities and identifies and builds positive relationships with leadership, volunteers, donors, administrators, and physicians.Develops effective strategies for solicitation, donor recognition and communication. Plans, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive development program consisting of annual giving, planned giving, major giving, prospect research, special events and volunteer engagement.Manages the operational responsibilities of the foundations, including policy development, ensuring the integrity of the donor data base and all other donor records, processing and accounting of donations received, and analysis and presentation of progress. Supervises philanthropy staff.Maintains a portfolio of high-capacity donor prospects.Builds a culture of philanthropy within the System and within the community through communication and active involvement.Works collaboratively with system and entity leaders to develop a common approach to fundraising and to provide system-wide services which strengthen the capacity and efficiency of development while keeping donor contact locally oriented.Supports the Foundation Board of Directors in assigned region and communicates with other System Boards and Committees as needed.Leads efforts to understand and implement fundraising industry best practices and benchmarks and ensures funds raised are used in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and donor wishes.

Ensures that all staff is well trained, motivated, and effective in communicating the organization's needs and mission.Recommends staffing levels, selects and assigns staff, evaluates performance, evaluates/tests competencies (as applicable), provides orientation, training and continuing education of staff, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.Continuously assesses and improves the department/service line/entity/System's performance in grateful patient fundraising and prospect engagement. Maintains appropriate quality control/assessment programs (if applicable).Directs the preparation and maintenance of department fundraising reports. Prepares periodic reports for top management, as required.Maintains professional affiliations and enhances professional growth and development to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Travel Requirements:

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Bachelors Degree RequiredMasters Degree and/or advanced certificate or courses in philanthropy Preferred

Work Experience:

10+ years of progressively successful experience in leading a philanthropy program with a strong record of growth, engagement, and stewardship; Development/fundraising in health care Required

Courses and Training:

CFRE, FAHP Certifications/Designations Upon Hire Preferred
