Reporting to the President, the Vice President, Research & Development, will lead and manage all R&D activities in the development of cutting-edge ink jet, laser, labeling, and traceability technologies. This role requires a dynamic leader with a strong technical background, strategic vision, and a proven track record of driving innovation and bringing new products to market.

This position is a hybrid role and is within commutable distance to Videojet’s larger Engineering Teams in either Huntingdon, UK; Lübeck, Germany; or Wood Dale, Illinois, USA.

The Research and Development (R&D) function advances innovation across our portfolio to drive growth and increase market share. The Vice President of Global R&D is accountable for setting the R&D direction, developing and delivering innovation, driving execution, while managing the R&D organization and continuously improving the R&D organizational culture, structure, processes, and talent.

In this role, you will:

Provide global leadership and direction across multiple R&D development sites in creating and delivering innovative, sustainable, highly reliable, and usable solutions for our customers across multiple printing technologies, software services, and consumables.

Responsible for improving and building a world-class R&D organization through the identification, hiring, development, and retention of great, diverse talent to ensure the organization is resourced and capable of meeting its strategic goals.

Cultivate a collaborative and inclusive work environment where everyone has the opportunity to perform at their best.

Formulate and implement the long-term strategy with respect to new and emerging technologies in core and adjacent markets that advance company objectives and ensure it maintains durable and valuable competitive advantages.

Serve as a cross-functional champion (especially between Product Management, Operations, Quality, and R&D teams) to ensure seamless execution in the development and launch of new products.

Partner with Product Management and Senior Leadership to ensure that we are efficiently developing the “right products” with the “right feature sets” that address the

most important customer pain points and will deliver long-term growth, profitability, and market share gains for our company.

Deploy and improve upon the Veralto Enterprise System tools to continuously improve our productivity, drive world-class project execution, and enhance our competitive advantage.

Support the continuous quality improvement, cost reduction, and life cycle management of current products. 

Collaborate closely with the Intellectual Property (IP) team to ensure patent rights for new products are secured.

Establish and manage the operating budget

Ensure that R&D provides technical assistance to other departments

Drive coordination and exchange between multiple global R&D sites in order to adopt, harmonize, and standardize best practices.

The essential requirements of the job include:

Advanced Technical Degree: Master's or PhD in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related technical discipline with deep expertise in printing technologies, ink jet systems, laser marking, or industrial automation

Senior R&D Leadership Experience: Minimum 15+ years in R&D with at least 8-10 years in senior leadership roles managing large, geographically distributed technical teams (100+ engineers)

Product Development & Commercialization: Proven track record of successfully bringing complex hardware/software products from concept to market launch in industrial or manufacturing environments

Global Operations Management: Experience leading multi-site R&D organizations across different countries/cultures, with demonstrated ability to standardize processes and drive collaboration across global teams

Strategic Technology Vision: Strong background in developing long-term technology roadmaps, identifying emerging market opportunities, and translating customer needs into innovative product solutions

Cross-Functional Leadership: Extensive experience partnering with Product Management, Operations, Quality, and Commercial teams to drive seamless product development and launch execution

Business Acumen & Budget Management: Demonstrated success managing significant R&D budgets ($50M+), understanding P&L impact, and making strategic investment decisions that drive growth and market share

Willingness to travel up to 50%

Preferred: Experience in packaging, consumer goods, and pharmaceutical industries; familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma methodologies; international assignment experience.
