What is the Opportunity ?
RBC Capital Markets is seeking a highly skilled and analytically minded Vice President to join its Prime Brokerage team under the Equity Finance business in Central Funding. Reporting to the Managing Director, this newly created role will serve as a front-office risk management leader, while monitoring, validating, and ensuring optimized client portfolios.
With a strong focus on risk metrics and regulatory compliance, the ideal candidate will bridge technical expertise with business acumen to support RBC’s strategic initiatives and objectives to increase P&L while directly engaging with portfolio managers and internal stakeholders.
Risk monitoring & oversight
Monitor daily counterparty risk exposures, credit limits, and margin utilization across prime brokerage client accounts.
Analyze and interpret portfolio changes, fund strategies, and risk trends; escalate concerns proactively.
Conduct stress testing and scenario analyses on client portfolios and margin models.
Develop client relationships to deepen partnerships
What will you do ?
System testing & enhancement
Oversee system functionality; collaborate with internal IT programmers to validate and enhance RBC’s proprietary risk platform.
Ensure system logic aligns with Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) and internal policy requirements; support testing and control processes
Client Interaction & Business Insight
Collaborate with clients, Portfolio Managers, and internal stakeholders to understand investment strategies, behavioral shifts, and how they impact risk appetite.
Participate in new client onboarding reviews and presentations.
Cross-functional coordination
Act as a key liaison with Credit and Risk, Operations, and Compliance.
Contribute to regulatory filings, internal audits, and control processes to support compliance across Prime Brokerage activity.
Internal & external benchmarking
Analyze industry best practices to evolve RBC’s prime risk management model.
Recommend enhancements to internal policies based on market intelligence and regulatory evolution.
Other research and revenue optimization project work as required
What do you need to succeed?
6–8 years of experience in Capital Markets, preferably within Prime Brokerage, Equity Finance, Hedge Fund credit.
Deep understanding of credit risk, margining, and counterparty exposure management.
Familiarity with CIRO and OSC (Ontario Securities Commission) regulatory frameworks and Canadian market structures.
Proficiency in data and risk tools: Excel (advanced), Bloomberg, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python (preferred).
Strong communication skills for stakeholder engagement, with proven experience working with trading desks, credit risk, and external clients.
Seek new client opportunities who align with our organization’s culture and risk profile while maintaining knowledge and appreciation of department goals and objectives
Self-starter – Demonstrates aptitude for understanding the underlying goals and tasks while proactively taking initiative as required
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, dynamic setting
Effective communication and presentation skills
Preferred qualifications
CFA or FRM designation (or in progress) is considered an asset.
Experience at a global prime brokerage firm or exposure to international counterparties, such as those in the U.S./UK.
Background in liquidity risk, collateral optimization, or treasury functions.
