Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and visionary director to lead our studio directing team at a premier national cable television news network. This leadership role, Vice President of MSNBC Operations & Creative Production, is critical to shaping the visual execution of our news broadcasts, managing the directing staff, and collaborating cross-functionally to uphold the highest standards in live and taped news programming and live events.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management
Supervise and mentor a team of directors responsible for daily live news broadcasts, breaking news, and special programming.Develop staffing plans, oversee scheduling, and ensure operational efficiency and quality control across all directed content.Foster a high-performance culture grounded in collaboration, creativity, and accountability.Vision & Execution
Define and implement the creative vision for studio blocking, shot composition, camera movement, and overall production aesthetic.Partner with Technical Operations to ensure flawless execution of studio production and integration of new technologies.Editorial Collaboration
Work closely with editorial leadership to align directing strategies with show priorities, tone, and narrative focus.Participate in editorial meetings to understand evolving news priorities and adapt directing strategies accordingly.Serve as a key liaison between production and editorial teams during breaking news, live events, and network specials.Creative & Art Direction
Collaborate with the Art Department to ensure the creative direction of sets, graphics, lighting, and scenic design supports and enhances show formats and storytelling.Translate editorial needs into innovative, practical studio design solutions in partnership with creative teams.Qualifications
Qualifications:
Minimum 10 years of experience in television news directing, with at least 3+ years in a senior leadership role.Proven success managing directing teams in a live control room environment.Deep knowledge of production systems, camera blocking, studio operations, and newsroom workflows.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working with union crews and understanding of technical contract compliance.Familiarity with industry-leading production technologies (e.g., INEWS, Vizrt, Ross OverDrive, robotic camera systems).Strong creative instincts with the ability to translate editorial priorities into compelling visual storytelling.Strong design sensibility and an understanding of evolving news aesthetics and formats.Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Bachelor’s degree in Media Production, Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field (or equivalent work experience).This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary Range: $175,000 - $225,000
