Vice President, Data Risk Management

As Vice President Data Risk Management, you will be accountable for compliance with requirements outlined in the Enterprise Data Management Operating Policy and supporting Standards for Global Commercial Services (GCS). You will lead a team that continuously partners across business units and technology teams to define and execute the data governance strategy, monitoring and managing data quality, resolving data/platform issues, and driving consistency, usability, and governance of specific product data across the enterprise. 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Executive to join our team.  Expert communication, influencing and the ability to understand business priorities and adjust data strategies accordingly are key for this role. We’re looking for someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment, operates cross-functionally and maintains a positive attitude.

Primary Responsibilities:

Manage and advance mitigation of Data Risk, data governance and management principles, policies, and programs for stewardship, advocacy, and custodianship of data Accountable for the short term and long-term strategic direction and performance of Data Stewards, Data Custodians and Process Owners within Global Commercial Services Assign and monitor the performance of your direct team  to successfully implement and maintain compliance the Enterprise Data Management Operating Policy Create the vision and roadmap that are adaptable and scalable for the Enterprise Data Risk Management Policy implementation Build solutions that make data a strategic asset for American Express and our partners Collaborate with data owners and users to modify or implement new repeatable and reliable businesses processes to implement truly effective data management Escalate risks and data-related issues to senior management and relevant committees in accordance with the Risk Governance Framework Attain a comprehensive understanding of GCS data and data assets and collaborate cross functionally to identify key reports 

Qualifications:

10 – 12 years of direct work experience in large scale/enterprise data projects, with at least 5 years of direct experience relating to creation and execution of formal data governance and/or data management programs Proven track record of understanding business challenges and strategies and connecting those to data and capabilities Strong working knowledge of current and upcoming data governance, data management and data product techniques and trends, with a point of view on the evolving concepts and best practices Senior level program management experience, with stakeholders across a diverse, global set of business units Demonstrable experience of driving meaningful improvements in business value through data management and strategy Ability to work with white space to design and execute solutions to solve complex challenges High-caliber communication skills, both in terms of preparing and delivering a strategic vision and updates to large groups and senior leaders Experience leading cross functional global teams Ability to put enterprise thinking first, connect the role’s agenda to enterprise priorities and balance the needs of customers, partners, colleagues & shareholders. Demonstrated learning agility, ability to make decisions quickly and with the highest level of integrity Willingness to test, learn, fail and improve is critical Must have a positive, collaborative leadership style with colleague and customer first mindset Regulatory, governance and policy, risk/data risk management, data/data breach reporting and management, data governance/compliance management and issues management and reporting experience highly preferred Knowledge and experience with MDM and DG tools suites and application is a plus

Salary Range: $200,000.00 to $275,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
