Vice President, Anesthesia & Perioperative Service Line
**Purpose:** UPMC is seeking a dynamic leader to join our team as Vice President of Anesthesia and Perioperative Service Line. This individual is responsible for the leadership of all Anesthesia and Perioperative care at UPMC hospitals with UPP Anesthesiology Services and serves as an Executive Advisor to all other Anesthesiology Departments and perioperative services in UPMC. This individual is also a member of all UPMC Executive level, system-wide Surgical Services Committees and Task Forces. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Academic Practices, this individual will provide strategic direction for Anesthesiology and perioperative care delivery and resource management, perioperative surgical services management in pursuit of the highest standard of patient care, and clinical effectiveness across the enterprise. Through emphasis on quality, access, efficiency, and best practices, the Vice President will have direct operational oversight to ensure that clinical services are delivered with a best of class culture by an accountable, effective operations organization. **Responsibilities:** + Assists and advises the Department Chair, Hospital Presidents, and other Surgical Services leaders in the areas of strategic planning and resource allocation processes of UPMC as it applies to Anesthesiology and Perioperative services. Leads daily UPP Anesthesiology clinical operations, financial coordination, long-range planning, perioperative innovation, training, and research support. + Ensures effective communication with all service line key stakeholders. Demonstrates the ability to establish and maintain effective physician and staff relationships, proactive support for physician development, and active involvement with physicians and management decision-making. Works collaboratively with hospital leadership and corporate support services. Provides support for the UPMC partner hospitals. + Ensures appropriate, flexible, and high quality staffing of UPP Anesthesia Services, while recommending optimal staffing models and coverage needs across all UPMC locations. Serves as service line representative in formal legal matters and interacts with attorneys on issues related to billing and third party payers, risk management, regulatory compliance, employment and human resources grievances, and other complaints. + Supervises and oversees the UPP Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine budgets (i.e., clinical practice plan, hospital, School of Medicine, and research) in conjunction with hospital leadership and the Chairman. Reports to the Chairman and Hospital Presidents on expenses and revenues to monitor and analyze performance against goals. + Serves as a liaison for construction, renovation projects, and building utilization. Assesses existing needs and plan for new programs to meet the technical needs of the research instructional and at times, clinical programs. + Establishes, implements and promotes new models of Anesthesiology and Perioperative care delivery with emphasis on patient centered, team based, efficient care focusing on optimal patient outcomes while ensuring cost-sensitivity. Implements, monitors and evaluates all quality initiatives to ensure positive patient outcomes. Oversees quality and efficiency of all department clinical locations. Ensures compliance with UPMC policies and procedures and with the requirements of any applicable regulatory agencies or accrediting bodies (i.e. TJC, PA DoH, Medicaid). Assist managers and division chiefs to develop and implement action plans to improve service levels and exceed customer expectations. + Bachelor's Degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field and 10 years of experience with 7 years in a management capacity OR Master's Degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field and 8 years of experience with 7 years in a management capacity OR M.D. OR D.O. Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of experience in Anesthesiology with 5 years of experience in a management capacity. + Demonstrated ability to navigate a complex health system and maintain professional and productive relationships with all levels of physicians and staff. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** + Act 34 **UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran**
