The VEV Laboratory Testing Engineer is an essential technical contributor within the Ford of Mexico Instrumentation and Metrology Laboratories, responsible for supporting precision measurement and testing activities. This role is designed for professionals developing their expertise in automotive product testing, focusing on applying established automation and measurement techniques and assisting in project execution. With foundational knowledge and practical skills, the engineer plays a key role in ensuring accurate and reliable data collection that supports quality assurance efforts across automotive systems.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams such as Body Interior, Body Exterior, Chassis-Brakes, EDS Wiring, Seats, and Benchmark ensures smooth coordination and data integration to meet project requirements.
This role emphasizes learning and growing technical capabilities, with increasing responsibility for handling instrumentation and metrology equipment and supporting test bench setups. Education: Bachelor’s degree or academic equivalent in engineering or a closely related technical discipline. CAD design: Basic CATIA – Solidworks knowledge. Candidate must be able to design basic testing fixtures and create their respective drawings for manufacturing Electronics and instrumentation: Knowledge in electronic principles and how data acquisition systems and sensors work, such as load cells, thermocouples, accelerometers, LVDTs, microphones among others. Automation: Knowledge in automation systems and actuators (electric motors, pneumatics, hydraulics) and their integration into a reliable test system. LabView knowledge is preferred Data Analysis: Knowledge in time and frequency domain analysis for large datasets sourced from multiple sensors and physical attributes. MATLAB or Python knowledge is preferred Automotive systems: Understanding basic principles of automotive systems such as combustion engines, fuel systems, brakes, suspension, electrical harnesses, etc. English communication: Intermediate or advanced English written and oral communication skills. Training: Willingness to participate in relevant training programs and certifications as needed. Familiarity with fundamental measurement tools and software is desirable. What you'll do…
CAD design and analysis: Basic CAD design and analysis between 3D scanning data Vs design intent filed in CATIA/TeamCenter. Instrumentation, automation and data acquisition: Engage in instrumentation and automation system design, programming, monitoring towards the execution of vehicle or system level testing. Basic Problem Solving: Address routine measurement challenges and assist in troubleshooting standard equipment issues with guidance. Identify common problems and apply documented solutions effectively. Cross-Functional Support: Collaborate with various teams by providing timely measurement data and assisting with scheduled testing activities. Communicate clearly to ensure data meets engineering needs. Established measurement Practices: Operate and maintain recognized measurement instruments such as CMM, laser scanners, sensors and data acquisition systems. Data Collection and Reporting: Gather and record measurement data accurately, performing preliminary checks for consistency. Assist in preparing reports that summarize findings for review by senior engineers. Test Bench Assistance: Help set up and maintain test benches for measurement and motion analysis, ensuring equipment functionality and basic calibration are performed. Support Continuous Improvement: Participate in laboratory efficiency initiatives by suggesting simple process enhancements and adopting best practices. Equipment Care: Conduct routine verifications and basic maintenance of laboratory devices, escalating complex issues to senior engineers for action. Learning and Development: Engage in training opportunities to deepen understanding of testing methods and automotive quality demands.
