VCA Animal Specialty Group is a long-established 24 hour emergency and specialty hospital. We are a large teaching hospital with residency programs, specialty and rotating internships. We host veterinary, RVT, and veterinary assistant student externships. We focus on and encourage learning and growth professionally.

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Neurology details and services: VCA ASG has 3 fulltime board-certified Neurologists, one Neurology resident, two Neurology interns, and a highly experienced staff of licensed technicians and veterinary assistants. The department focuses on all thing relating to the nervous system, including head tilts, circling, seizures, limb weakness and paralysis, and much more. Some procedures include advanced imaging such as MRI and CT for diagnostic purposes, ventral slots and hemilaminectomies, spinal taps, EMG testing, etc.

What we're looking for: Looking for experienced veterinary assistants to work in our Neurology department and be a positive contributor to the team.

Ideal candidates should have proficiency in the following skill/knowledge:

IV catheter placementSample collection and processing (in-house and to outside labs)RadiographsAssisting RVTs with anesthesia induction, monitoring and recovery for patients needing advanced imaging (CTs and MRIs) and neurological surgeries and procedures.Restraining for exams and performing diagnosticsClients communication (histories, estimates, discharges, demos, prescriptions)Experience cleaning and sterilizing surgical equipment using autoclaves and gas sterilizersExperience working in a sterile environment, such as operating rooms

Applicants should be/have:

Shifts are 10 hour shifts 4 days/week from 830am-7pm and must include at least one weekend day2 years experience in a veterinary hospital setting as a veterinary assistant or technician assistantAble to work at least one weekend dayBe able to communicate respectfully and compassionatelyReceive and carryout instructions thoroughly, quickly and efficiently with minimal directionBe reliable and maintain excellent attendanceExcellent multi-tasking skills in a busy environmentOutstanding organizational and time management skillsAble to provide exceptional client service and patient careWork collaboratively in a team
