We’re on the lookout for a dedicated Outpatient Technician to join our energetic team!
Position Overview:
The purpose of this position is to ensure quality care for pets and promote greater efficiency by relieving veterinarians of technical and administrative work. The Outpatient Veterinary Technician performs a variety of patient and client-care duties and conducts patient assessments and performs procedures and treatments. This person communicates clearly with the veterinarians, other hospital personnel, and clients to ensure that patients receive the care they need. The Outpatient Veterinary Technician provides for patient and client comfort by keeping the hospital clean and presentable.
Compensation:$22 - $34/hr, based on experience and skillsetAnticipated Schedule:Full Time4 x 10-hour shifts weeklyWeekends/holidays as necessaryEssential FunctionsProvides compassionate patient care and ensures comfort and hygieneMonitors patient condition and alerts veterinarians to changesMaintains accurate and up-to-date medical recordsFollows protocols for contagious diseases and safe patient restraintAssists with diagnostics, treatments, and procedures (e.g., catheter placement, venipuncture, anesthesia, endoscopy, CT scans)Administers medications under veterinary or technician directionPerforms lab work, fills prescriptions, and processes medication refillsAdmits and discharges patients for outpatient and inpatient careManages feeding, walking, and basic care for hospitalized patientsPackages and sends lab samples to external laboratoriesKeeps the hospital clean, stocked, and organizedLaunders linens and maintains a sanitary environmentGenerates and communicates financial estimates for patient careTakes initiative to assist teammates and stay productive during downtimeAdditional dutiesAssist in inventory counting and processingTroubleshooting medical equipmentAssist in training veterinary assistantsPerforms downtime projects such as organizing/cleaning Attends required staff meetingsRequirementsEducation equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.Veterinary Technician Certification (RVT,CVT,LVT) strongly preferred but not required.At least one year of recent experience in veterinary practice, with increasing responsibilities.Demonstrates ability to accurately manage and record detailed information in medical records and other data-management systems.Ability to properly restrain patients.Knowledge of spelling and meaning of commonly used veterinary medical terminology and procedures.Ability to complete assigned tasks in the time allotted without direct supervision.Demonstrated ability to show empathy toward clients and treat animals with respect and compassion.Excellent interpersonal communication skills.Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!A commitment to outstanding client service.Physical DemandsAbility to lift up to 40 pounds.Stamina to work long shifts, sometimes exceeding 10 hours, including standing, sitting and kneeling.Comfort with exposure to animals, odors, and various clinical conditions.BenefitsFull-time benefits include:Health, dental, visionDisability and life insurancesFlex-spending accounts, 401(k)Employee Assistance Program, Accrued paid time offUniform stipendHighly competitive and comparable wages based on experience and skill setPartnership with Purdue VT program/scholarshipsCompetitive Vet Assistant and RVT CE allowance annuallyVetBloom access: Race approved continuing education, training, and curriculum libraryLicense application and renewal reimbursement for RVT’sFinancial support and onsite mentorship toward pursuit of VTSHealth and wellness programs including access to League wellness app and on onsite Veterinary Social WorkerOpportunities for growth and advancementA unique learning experience driven by our senior leadership and doctors
