Vehicle Modernization Manager

The Vehicle Modernization Manager – Program is responsible for managing modernization updates for the projects within their programs. They will also develop update procedures while working with the EE SSTM (Program Manager) and Vehicle Engineering Program Manager (VPM) to define part levels for each modernization wave. These procedures will include software update procedures and hardware update instructions. They will request part needs to support modernization requests and will manage vehicle logistics of 1,000’s of vehicles for this task. They will manage and train Flying Doctors on how to update development and production vehicles built at assembly plants after delivery, and/or supplier sub-assembly. They will train the Flying Doctors on how to conduct basic triage and perform customer-level audit testing. They will be responsible for creating software update instructions to ensure that vehicles are updated correctly and to the defined software levels without issues or causing additional downtime. They will assign work tickets to the Modernization and Triage and Modernization teams and will be instrumental in enhancing vehicle usability and deploying new features during validation. Their responsibility covers a vehicle program and are expected to support the modernization of approximately 10,000 vehicles per year. Along with the entire Operability and Commissioning Team, they will strive to improve vehicle-level operability by updating vehicles with the latest compatible software configurations and promptly identifying and resolving issues.

 

Their responsibilities also include: 

Manage modernization updates for the projects within their programs. Modernization waves may range from 10-25 waves per project and 100-200 vehicles per wave. Develop flash instructions, collect files, etc. to ensure seamless updates of thousands of engineering development and fast feedback vehicles. Define hardware required for updates, track part quantities requested and inventory and facilitate hardware updates with CTC labs as required. Manage and train Flying Doctors (18+) to update software and test new configurations without issues or causing additional downtime. Distribute tickets to Flying Doctors & Flying Analysts depending on the work order request. Escalate any issues related to modernization or arising from modernization to the Vehicle Operability Manager and Flying Leader. Develop workarounds for issues. Manage project timing. Manage modernization resources for their program and define Workforce needs. Request additional resources as needed to complete modernization projects in time. Prepare Workflow of upcoming projects. Support project status reports. Support definition of exception lists. Manage/Update Auditor Checklists. Support issue meetings. Support Commissioning and defining the software baseline. Support vehicle facilitation. Define Workshop Tools Required (Hardware and Software). Support data storage and repository management. Assist team to close tickets. Support Project Budget assignments. Support Workload vs Workforce Analysis. Support Archetype Definition / Management. Support Readiness Reviews: Maturity, Issues, Compatibility, Workarounds. Analyze KPI and propose efficiencies Discover, root cause, collect data, document/assign issues.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree – Electrical, Mechanical, Computer or Related Engineering from an ABET accredited program. 10 years of engineering experience. Experience in electrical/electronics. Skilled in using electrical debugging tools (e.g., digital multi-meter, oscilloscope, CAN diagnostic tools, CDA, Dianalyzer, Diagalyser, current probes, etc.). In-depth understanding of electricity/electronics and electrical/electronic architectures. Familiarity with industrialization and R&D processes and tools. Proficient in computer tools. Experience troubleshooting vehicle systems in various environments. Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills. Basic knowledge of software and modeling concepts. Independent leader and self-starter, focused on triage and synthesis. Ability to work well with a team of experts. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Hold a valid driver's license, willing to drive and test vehicles, and able to obtain a chauffeur's license for heavy-duty trucks. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge of CAN bus and experience using Vector CAN tools (CAN diagnostic tools, CANoe, CANalyzer.) EOE / Disability / Veteran
