CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. To learn more about CEMML’s contributions to land management, our mission, vision, and values, visithttp://www.cemml.colostate.edu/ Position Summary A Vegetation Team Technical Support – Commercial Applicator (Technical/Support II) position is available at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii with Colorado State University ( CSU ) and the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands ( CEMML ). This position is responsible for applying pesticides and overseeing the purchase, and safe use and storage of pesticides in support of the Army’s Integrated Training Area Management ( ITAM ) Program at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The position documents all pesticide applications for official reporting purposes and ensures proper concentration calculations are used for purchasing/application of pesticides in support of aerial and ground spraying activities. The focus of this position is vegetation management for increased military safety and land sustainability. Reduced vegetation is crucial for limiting potential fires associated with military training. When not applying pesticides, this position will support other tasks as needed, such as operating light equipment or handheld equipment. Schofield Barracks was established in 1908 to provide mobile defense of Pearl Harbor and the entire island. Located 20 miles from Honolulu on the plateau or “central valley” of Oahu between the two volcanic mountains that comprise the island, the nearly 18,000-acre installation is home to the U.S. Army Garrison, Hawaii. Work location is dependent on the needs of the partner/project/role and requires staff to be fully in-person. Required Job Qualifications + A High school Diploma, GED , or equivalent + Must possess a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date. + The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by the proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. + At least 3 years of experience in land management, vegetation management, and land restoration + At least 1 year of experience in vegetation management using pesticides + Demonstrated experience with pesticide application methods + Current Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s license with a right of way ( ROW ) endorsement + Ability to work collaboratively and productively with a variety of stakeholders + Experience working on military lands + Physically able to work outdoors and perform strenuous labor under all weather conditions (e.g., heat and humidity) + Able to lift 40 pounds repeatedly without assistance + Proficient verbal and written English communication skills + Demonstrated experience completing Herbicide Use Reports. Preferred Job Qualifications + 5+ years of experience in land management, vegetation management, and land restoration + 3+ years of experience in vegetation management using pesticides + Prior experience supporting the Integrated Training Area Management ( ITAM ) program + Working knowledge and experience working with the Department of the Army or other federal land-management agencies + Experience with land rehabilitation, vegetation management techniques, and erosion control practices + Excellent written and oral communication skills Essential Duties Job Duty CategoryApplying pesticides and overseeing the purchase and safe use of pesticides.
