Job Description SummaryThe Facilities General Utility Technician supports the overall maintenance and operations of the facility by performing a wide range of general maintenance, repair, and utility tasks. This role assists in ensuring the cleanliness, safety, functionality, and appearance of building systems, equipment, and grounds. Duties include light plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, furniture moves, and general support for facilities projects and operations.
This position requires versatility, a strong work ethic, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving. The ideal candidate is dependable, adaptable, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team to maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.Job Description

Experience & Education Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.

1–3 years of experience in general building maintenance, facilities support, or a related trade (e.g., custodial, utility work, or handyman services) preferred.

Basic knowledge of building systems including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and mechanical operations.

Experience using hand and power tools, ladders, lifts, testing equipment, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.

Familiarity with safety regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE), and standard operating procedures for facilities maintenance.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.

Must pass a hair follicle drug screening.

Ability to read and interpret work orders, safety guidelines, and basic blueprints or diagrams is a plus.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Perform routine general maintenance tasks including minor plumbing repairs, basic electrical work, painting, patching, and carpentry.

Assist with equipment and furniture moves, office setups, and workspace reconfigurations.

Conduct inspections of common areas, restrooms, lighting, and mechanical rooms to identify and resolve maintenance needs.

Support HVAC, electrical, and plumbing teams with general labor and prep work as needed.

Respond to work orders and service requests promptly and professionally, ensuring tasks are completed to standard.

Maintain cleanliness and organization in maintenance workspaces, mechanical rooms, and storage areas.

Perform groundskeeping duties such as sweeping walkways, removing trash/debris, and minor landscaping support.

Operate tools and equipment including ladders, lifts, vacuums, pressure washers, and basic power tools.

Follow all safety procedures and protocols, including PPE usage, lockout/tagout procedures, and proper tool handling.

Document work performed using logs, checklists, or maintenance software (e.g., CMMS).

Provide emergency support during inclement weather or unplanned maintenance events (e.g., leaks, power outages).

Collaborate with vendors and contractors during facility projects or repairs.

Work Environment

This role operates in both professional office and industrial/warehouse environments, indoors and outdoors. The technician routinely uses maintenance tools and standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. May be the only maintenance staff member on duty during certain shifts and may be required to work extended hours during emergencies or priority situations. Shift work and on-call duties may be required.

Physical Demands

Use of ladders and lifting equipment to work at heights.

Perform outdoor work year-round in varying weather conditions.

Communicate effectively and exchange accurate information.

Operate computers and office productivity equipment.

Move throughout the workplace and remain stationary less than 10% of the time.

Lift up to 50 lbs. and extend hands and arms in any direction.
