Utility Engineer 3
ABM Industries is seeking an experienced Utility Engineer 3 to join our facilities engineering team. This senior-level position is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and optimization of critical utility systems in commercial and industrial facilities. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise and leadership in ensuring reliable, efficient, and safe operation of building systems while supporting ABM's commitment to delivering exceptional facility services. **Key Responsibilities** + **Utility Systems Management** + Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex utility systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and building automation systems + Perform preventive maintenance programs on all utility equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability + Conduct system performance analysis and implement energy efficiency improvements + Monitor and maintain critical building systems including chillers, boilers, generators, switchgear, and distribution systems + **Technical Leadership & Problem Solving** + Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and maintenance staff + Lead complex troubleshooting efforts for utility system failures and emergency situations + Develop and implement maintenance procedures, work instructions, and safety protocols + Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams on major repairs and system upgrades + **Project Management & Planning** + Manage utility infrastructure projects from planning through completion + Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for system improvements + Prepare technical specifications, work orders, and project documentation + Ensure all work complies with local codes, regulations, and safety standards + **Data Analysis & Reporting** + Monitor utility consumption and system performance metrics + Prepare detailed reports on equipment status, maintenance activities, and system performance + Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and system modifications + Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for work order management **Qualification** + Minimum 5-7 years of experience in facilities engineering, utilities management, or related field + Previous experience in commercial or industrial facility maintenance preferred + **Technical Skills** + Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical distribution, plumbing, and building automation systems + Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings + Experience with energy management systems and utility optimization + Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards (OSHA, NEC, ASHRAE) + **Certifications & Licenses** + Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred + Relevant trade certifications (EPA Section 608, electrical license, etc.) highly desirable + Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred + **Preferred Qualifications** + Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and energy management software + Knowledge of sustainability practices and LEED principles + Project management experience and/or PMP certification + Experience working in healthcare, education, or corporate facility environments + **Skills & Competencies** + Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills + Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities + Leadership skills with ability to mentor and train others + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and facility management software + Commitment to safety and quality standards
