Job purpose
This position will be responsible for calculating BorgWarner’s quarterly and annual US federal and state income tax provision and managing all tasks related to the preparation and submission of BorgWarner’s US federal and state income tax returns. This position will report to the US International Tax Lead.
In addition, this position will be responsible for researching various US tax issues, supporting quarterly estimated US tax payments, responding to requests for information from taxing authorities, and helping to resolve issues in audit situations.
Key responsibilities
Responsible for BorgWarner’s quarterly and year-end US income tax provision in compliance with ASC 740, which includes responsibility of:
+ Quarterly FIN18, soft-close, and year-end close procedures and preparing quarterly and annual review analytics.
+ Quarterly and annual GILTI, FDII, FTC, and withholding tax workpapers/model.
+ Timely provision of documents to financial auditor and efficient management of quarterly and annual audit procedures related to US tax matters.
+ Continuous improvement with US federal income tax aspects of quarterly and annual processes, especially in reducing workload of non-tax teams.
+ Review and maintenance of US uncertain tax positions.
+ Required journal entries and completion of all required account reconciliations.
+ Input into BorgWarner’s Form 10Q and Form 10K.
+ US tax input into US GAAP documentation.
+ OECD Pillar Two modelling and analysis.
Responsible for key US tax adjustment and attribute modelling/management:
+ Detailed support for GILTI, FDII, FTC, and withholding tax modelling for all tax department projects.
+ Maintains US tax attribute tracking and ensures it is kept timely (e.g., tax basis, deferred intercompany transactions, etc.)
+ Establish repositories for all supporting documentation to support current and future positions.
Management of outsourced US federal and state income tax return process, including the responsibility of:
+ Management of the third-party service providers who have been engaged to prepare the tax return, ensuring a productive and efficient relationship with reporting units such that they provide all required information on a timely basis.
+ Coordination with the broader tax team in relation to US tax inputs, the research of US tax laws and issues, and completion of the return to provision workstream.
+ Review of budgets and forecasts to estimate future US federal and state tax payments and all activity related to making such payments.
+ Analysis and interpretation of new US federal tax legislation and regulations, reporting requirements, and court and regulatory agency decisions and similar events to identify potential impacts to BorgWarner.
Supports US federal and state income tax audits, including the gathering of all required information, the preparation of tax authority responses, development of arguments to support positions taken during audits, and the efficient resolution of issues. For state tax issues, management of external support over such areas. Leads a team of 3-4 that helps support US tax efforts:
+ Establishes roles and responsibilities for team that are aligned to the broader tax team.
+ Responsible for training, development, assessment, and mentoring of team.
+ Responsible for hiring team members and management of staff related issues.
What we’re looking for
+ Minimum of 10+ years of tax experience at a Big Four Public Accounting Firm or with a SEC registered public company.
+ Very strong knowledge of ASC 740 required.
+ Bachelor’s degree in accounting or CPA required.
+ Very strong knowledge of US federal tax rules and associated treasury regulations. (including international tax elements of the U.S. tax system).
+ Working knowledge of US state tax rules and transfer pricing concepts.
+ Must have a positive, highly analytical, solutions-focused, materiality-led, continuous improvement focused mind-set.
+ Must be results focused with a sense of urgency in execution.
+ Must have advanced-level computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint) and must have an ability to appreciate the next generation software (e.g., PowerBi).
+ Must have strong ethics and values and a proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
+ Must have strong project management skills.
+ Must have professional interpersonal and communication skills.
+ Must be a team player.
+ Must have experience of leading and motivating teams.
