Position Responsibilities

Mount Sinai Medical Center, a premier independent, not-for-profit academic medical center located in the heart of Miami Beach, is actively seeking a fellowship trained upper GI Surgeon to join our dynamic and multidisciplinary care team. Surgeon specializes in performing surgical procedures on the upper gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, and small intestine) using minimally invasive techniques. They treat a wide range of conditions, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), hernias, and cancers, using laparoscopic and robotic surgery approaches. 

Surgical Procedures:

Performing a variety of minimally invasive surgeries on the upper GI tract, such as:

Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery: Utilizing specialized instruments and cameras to perform surgeries through small incisions. 

Esophageal Surgery: Treating conditions like GERD, achalasia, and esophageal cancer. 

Gastric Surgery: Addressing stomach and duodenal ulcers, tumors, and other conditions. 

Bariatric Surgery: Performing weight-loss surgeries like gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy. 

Hernia Repair: Correcting hiatal and other abdominal wall hernias. 

 

Pre- and Post-Operative Care: Managing patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures, including follow-up visits. 

Diagnosis and Treatment Planning: Evaluating patients with digestive disorders, developing treatment plans, and determining the appropriate surgical approach. 

Advanced Endoscopy: Utilizing techniques like  and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). 

Teaching and Research: Educating residents and fellows, participating in research related to minimally invasive surgery, and contributing to the advancement of surgical techniques. 

Collaboration: Working with other specialists, such as gastroenterologists, oncologists, and radiologists, to provide comprehensive patient care. 

Surgical Expertise: Extensive training in minimally invasive surgical techniques, including laparoscopy and robotic surgery. 

Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to assess complex surgical situations and develop effective treatment strategies. 

Communication Skills: Effectively communicating with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals. 

Leadership and Teamwork: Leading surgical teams and collaborating with other specialists to ensure optimal patient outcomes.  Leadership Opportunities available. 

Research and Teaching Abilities: Contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field and educating future surgeons.

Florida License - required

Previous Experience - preferred
