Sycamore Community School is a Responsive Classroom school (Center for Responsive Schools) that places equal emphasis on strong academics, physical, and social-emotional learning. The curriculum includes Fundations, Lucy Calkins Readers and Writers Workshop, with a strong phonics component, Eureka mathematics (as well as CGI ) and Teacher Curriculum Institute (TCI) for Social Studies.

Job Summary Job Summary

Primary grade teacher is responsible for fulfilling homeroom responsibilities and teaching core subjects. Specialists teach music, science, art, PE, chess, yoga, and Spanish language. Sycamore Community School is seeking an upper elementary school teacher (4-5) to join our small, but growing, private-school learning community located in downtown Santa Monica. We are a small, independent school established by a group of educators who came together around a common set of principles about what school should be for students and families. We are currently serving children in kindergarten through 8th grade. We enjoy small class sizes taught by highly skilled and passionate instructors. Sycamore is a responsive-classroom school that places equal emphasis on strong academics, physical, and social-emotional learning. Our teachers and staff model a growth mindset while promoting the values of compassion, kindness, resilience, creativity, and independence. Our curriculum includes Lucy Calkins Readers and Writers Workshop, Eureka mathematics, Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI), and Teacher Curriculum for Social Studies. The successful candidate will maintain a positive learning environment in their classroom and plan interactive and engaging lessons. They should be able to collaborate and communicate effectively with students, parents, administration, and if applicable outside professionals. Sycamore Community School is looking for a dynamic and flexible individual who will be adaptable to a growing and innovative work environment. School leadership consists of three homeroom teachers and the principal.
