As an Unreal Generalist, you’ll bring an artistic eye and technical know-how to build and optimize real-time content across a variety of platforms. You’ll be responsible for end-to-end scene development—from asset prep and material creation to lighting and mobile optimization—all within Unreal Engine.
We’re looking for a versatile and creative Unreal Generalist with a passion spanning from visual storytelling, real-time rendering, blueprinting, UMG experience and cross-platform content development. This role blends high-end visual design with technical proficiency, supporting immersive experiences across desktop, mobile, and embedded platforms. You will be instrumental in shaping our Unreal Engine workflows and raising the visual bar for content creation within Ford’s digital product design ecosystem.
This role is hybrid 4 days/ week in Dearborn, MI.
What you'll have…
3+ years of experience working with Unreal Engine as a generalist (real-time environments, material design, scene optimization). Strong artistic sensibility with a solid technical foundation in 3D workflows. Familiarity with tools like Maya, Substance, and Photoshop. Experience creating visuals for both high-end systems and performance-constrained platforms like mobile or embedded hardware. Understanding of real-time lighting, baking, texture compression, and LOD setup. Knowledge of version control tools like Git or Perforce. Experience with Unreal Motion Graphics (UMG) or UI prototyping. Exposure to automotive, AR/VR, or HMI development. Familiarity with visualization pipelines. What you'll do….
3D Scene Building: Assemble and refine real-time environments, vehicles, and UI in Unreal Engine, balancing artistic quality with real-time performance. Cross-Platform Optimization: Create and optimize 3D content for mobile and embedded hardware, including geometry, materials, lighting, and shaders. Visual Development: Craft compelling visuals for both real-time and pre-rendered output, contributing to prototypes, in-vehicle experiences, experiential storytelling and marketing assets. Material & Shader Design: Build optimized materials using Unreal’s Material Editor, with a strong eye for detail and performance on a range of devices. Tool & Workflow Support: Work with design and engineering teams to streamline asset prep, improve Unreal pipelines, and build tools that enhance efficiency. Creative Problem Solving: Translate design goals into executable visuals inside Unreal while troubleshooting performance or visual fidelity issues. Collaboration & Communication: Partner across disciplines to ensure final experiences are visually cohesive, technically sound, and user-centered. Documentation & Standards: Contribute to documentation of best practices for visual fidelity, mobile performance, and pipeline efficiency.
