Overview
The Police Captain assists the Executive Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police in managing personnel and resources within the Police Department. The captain oversees all department operations with a strong focus on enhancing community safety, and fostering positive relationships, and implementing a community-centered approach to law enforcement and public safety. The captain is responsible for planning and managing campus events and acts in the capacity of the chief in their absence.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degreeFiveor more years of progressive law enforcement experienceCertified law enforcement officer in the state of Massachusetts, or able to obtain certification within 90 days of employmentDemonstrated experience in community-oriented policingAdvanced knowledge of law enforcementValid driver's licenseMust be able to work anytime, day or night to achieve department objectives in all weather conditions, and serve in an on-call rotationPreferred Qualifications
Master’s degreeStrong leadership and interpersonal skillsAbility to communicate with all levels of the organizationKnowledge of Higher Education Regulations and policies related to student safety, Title IX, Clery Act, and other applicable lawsKnowledge of Microsoft Office software applicationsExperience managing represented employee groupsStrong administrative, budgeting, and personnel management skillsWorking Location
This is an onsite Positionin Salem, MA with on-campus, in-person responsibilities,which may require frequentwork on evenings and weekends in all weather conditions. Position requires on-call status.
