*Day/Eve Shift: 7a-3p/3p-11p, three 8 hr. shifts (24 hrs.)*
*Required: High School Diploma or equivalent*
Summary:
To provide combination secretarial, computer data entry, reception and clerical duties at the direction of the Administrative Nurse Manager or Designee.
Responsibilities:
1. Transcribes Physician's Order's in an accurate and timely manner according to Norwalk Hospital's Policies and Procedures, Calls department for facilitation of transcribed order when appropriate.
2. Prepares, maintains and forwards records in an accurate and timely manner.
3. Communicates effectively and courteously with patients, visitors, and coworkers within the scope of his/her responsibilities. Identifies unit and self when answering phone. Competent in the use of Cerner, Navicare Call System, Vocera, Nash system and Forms on Demand. Assists the RN in care delivery by providing accurate and timely processing of communications. Relays information to appropriate person in a timely manner. Remains current with unit based and hospital wide information, such as email, Shared Governance and other means of communication
4. Follows all identified policy and procedures in carrying out unit assignments i.e., postings, work sheets, maintenance of data and knowledge of medical terminology. Offers suggestions and solutions to help improve unit operations. Maintains neat and orderly appearance and environment. Complies all competencies and annual requirements as established by the Staff Development Department and the Nurse Manager. Maintains personal Educational Record.
5. Monitors, orders and oversees maintenance of equipment and supplies in a proper, orderly and cost-effective manner; Enters and renews chargeable items/services into computer system for patient care correctly. Contacts appropriate departments as directed by Manager/designee, for needed services on nursing unit.
6. Enters all assignments into the Navicare system. Enters the Nash data every 4 hours and reviews the previous 24 hours of data for accuracy on day shift. Supports unit by assisting with call bell response according to unit standard, following hierarchy. Completes unit safety rounds, including checking name bands, signage, and emergency equipment.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
8. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Education: HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT
Other Information:
Required: High School Graduate or equivalent. Previous secretarial/computer experience preferred with Windows based computer system. Hospital or other health care setting experiences.
Minimum Experience: zero to six months
Desired: Working knowledge of medical terminology

Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity

Physical Effort: Sedentary/light effort. May exert up to 10 lbs. force
