Under limited supervision, responsible and accountable for operation, maintenance, and repair of the hospital steam generating machinery, distribution system and other mechanical equipment. This position is located at Henry Ford Medical- Detroit , MI Responsibilities Inspects, checks, and makes decisions relative to operation of all hospital machinery such as boilers, incinerators, sterilizers, refrigerators, electrical supply and distribution systems, plumbing, oxygen outlets and distribution, air-conditioning, air-conditioning systems, and pumps. Adjusts and/or regulates thermostats, burners, reads gauges, detects, investigates, reports on, accounts for malfunctioning machinery. Performs water testing, chemical management, and tracking. Uses hand tools and equipment necessary for minor and emergency repairs, makes minor repairs to boiler equipment, empties incinerators, records temperature of refrigerators, air conditioning units and systems. Supervises personnel in areas related to the primary job, guards’ area against entry of unauthorized personnel. Receives assignments and work orders. Reviews work orders for priority status and designated time schedules. Reads and interprets specifications and schematic diagrams. Requisitions material and supplies; prepares and assembles materials, tools, supplies and equipment for work to be performed. Maintains all required records and documents relative to operation of plant. Maintains appropriate instruction manuals, technical documents, schematics and blueprints. Completes all work orders in a timely, legible manner in order that complete and meaningful equipment histories are maintained. Responds to emergency calls in a timely manner. Applies cost-effective measures in order to improve efficiency and supports cost containment efforts while delivering a high-quality service. Provides Values-Added customer service consistent with hospital policy. Keeps work area clean, orderly and safe. Assures proper care in use of tools, equipment and supplies. Demonstrate safe work practices and attitudes, follows rules to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and department safety programs. Improve patient safety in the delivery of health care by understanding and applying the patient safety goal for SJPHS/Ascension of no preventable deaths or injuries. Qualifications Education: High School diploma or equivalent - required. Related trade school or equivalent training - required License/Certification: City of Detroit First Class Refrigeration Operator license - required Experience: Three to five years - required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to work with power equipment. Ability to work with hazardous equipment. #MFMBM
