Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Underwriter to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for underwriting new business according to set guidelines and determining the eligibility of groups for health insurance. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology and the ability to evaluate medical risks effectively.
ResponsibilitiesUnderwrite new business according to parameter guidelines and determine group eligibility for health insurance.Review Medical Load Reports and evaluate medical risks.Analyze Participation Worksheets and Group Eligibility documents.Compare Current Carrier Bills and Renewal Rates against census data and generated rates.Conduct phone calls with employers and contact individual applicants for additional health information or clarification.Send out final new business rates and run alternate quotes approved by the rate committee.Review Health Renewals and renewal tools, making appropriate rate increase recommendations.Document renewal actions and underwriting details in renewal spreadsheets.Create synopses of claim referrals and IDC complaints for finalization by Level 4.Essential SkillsProficiency in underwriting and understanding medical terminology.Experience with Microsoft Office and underwriting software.Minimum 3 years' experience in the insurance industry, including 1-2 years' experience in group and individual medical underwriting.High School Diploma required.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with medical database underwriting.Background in small group underwriting highly preferred.Experience with Gradient underwriting software preferred but not required.Candidates with previous career changes aiming to return to the industry are encouraged.Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid work environment, requiring 3 days in the office and 2 days remote (Monday through Friday). The role reports to the L3 and L4 Underwriter Supervisor.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $80000.00/yr.
